Brevity and simplicity have been carefully attended to in the following pages; and when other authors are quoted, the writer has preferred giving their exact language, instead of altering and paraphrasing words, which frequently detracts from the sense of the passage. He lived only 12 days after being taken on fhore; and on opening the body, a mafs of lead was taken from the liomach, weighing more than feven ounces.
