Book Description
Fundamentals of Criminal Investigation has served as the “Bible” of criminal investigation for many years. The ninth edition reflects the changes in advancements in forensic science, practices of criminalistics, computerization, electronic databases, and the Internet while remaining focused on the fundamentals of criminal investigation to help investigators build a solid foundation of investigative skills. Criminal investigators will learn what is meant by a complete investigation and acquaint themselves with the proofs of the most important crimes. In addition, they will become familiar with the employment of technical methods and services that are available. The tools of the investigator are referred to as the three “I’s,” namely, “Information,” “Interrogation,” and “Instrumentation.” This new edition includes an expanded discussion of this valuable tool. Among the changes in this new edition are the following: Updates to crime rates and occurrences; updated references and resources; updated glossary; a new chapter and section outline in the appendix to help facilitate locating material; revised crime scene investigation procedures; new information of the Next Generation Identification electronic database; new information on serial number restoration; new discussion of stress and determining deception; new discussion of intelligence analysis; revision of arson investigation techniques and practices; expanded discussion of Internet swindles; and an updated discussion of commonly abused drugs. Guide for the Development of Forensic Document Examination Capacity

Guide for the Development of Forensic Document Examination Capacity PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789211302998
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Fraudulent identity and security documents are integral prerequisites for the smuggling of migrants, trafficking in persons, terrorist mobility, to facilitate the smuggling of drugs, weapons and other goods, and to commit fraud. Fraudulent documents are the grease that eases cross-border crime of all types. They include fraudulently obtained, illegally issued, forged and counterfeit documents. Many countries in the world recognize that forensic document examination is vital to immigration and border control security and have a forensic document examination facility. Although the ability to detect and disseminate intelligence about fraudulent documents is vital to border security, there are still countries lacking this capacity. Moreover, there is a lack of awareness among relevant criminal justice practitioners of the benefits that forensic document examinations may provide to assist border control security and immigration facilities. The Guide aims to provide practical assistance for the establishment or upgrading of forensic document examination capacities in two categories of service providers: (a) immigration and border control agencies and (b) forensic science laboratories. Several levels of infrastructure development ranging from basic to advanced capacity are covered. The focus is on the staff skill and educational requirements needed to perform forensic document examinations and to provide court testimony, intelligence alerts and training.

Questioned Documents

Questioned Documents PDF Author: Albert Sherman Osborn
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Annotations and citations (Law)
Languages : en
Pages : 1122

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to assist in the discovery and proof of the facts in any investigation, or legal inquiry, involving the genuineness of a document. Definite instructions are given regarding the investigation of the several classes of questioned documents. Since the first edition of this book was issued eighteen years ago there has been a revolution in many American courts in the methods and procedure relating to the proof of the facts in disputed document cases. It can hardly be believed now that less than fifteen years ago no standard of comparison, no genuine writing whatever, could be introduced, either to prove genuineness or forgery, in the United States federal courts, or in the state courts of many states. In the great majority of courts, however, there is now a helpful and receptive attitude that tends to make a trial at law involving a disputed document, as it should be, a legally supervised scientific investigation. Courts are more and more distinguishing between mere opinions and clear, demonstrative evidence; between honest and competent witnesses and dishonest and incompetent fakirs and pretenders. A hope is again expressed that this new and enlarged work will aid in promoting justice.
