Book Description
The analysis of the IH-30 corridor with a moveable barrier-separated contraflow HOV lane did not indicate a change in injury crash occurrence. The IH-35E North and IH-635 corridors with buffer-separated, concurrent flow HOV lanes did show a change in crash occurrence with an increase in injury crash rates.

Analysis of Accident Data for Existing Data Bases in Texas
Author: Chryssis George Papaleontiou
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Pavements
Languages : en
Pages : 30
Book Description
The objective of this study is to identify and evaluate those variables in the vehicle-driver-roadway-weather system that contribute to accidents, with particular emphasis on the friction number. Accident information and skid data are obtained from two computer databases, the Master Accident Listing (MAL) and the Skid Summaries. A total of 94,000 accidents that took place between the years 1982 and 1987 in Tarrant County are analyzed. An important element in accident studies is the definition and identification of high accident locations. This report proposes a method by which each section of roadway is assigned a relative measure of severity based on the total number of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. The selection is further refined by considering sections with an unusually high number of wet weather accidents. A major effort was devoted to merging the friction data and accident factors for the selected high accident location.

Preferential Lane Treatments for High-occupancy Vehicles
Author: Charles A. Fuhs
Publisher: Transportation Research Board
ISBN: 9780309053129
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 92
Book Description
This synthesis will be of interest to transportation planners, highway engineers, environmental personnel, highway design engineers, transit planners, highway administrators, and others concerned with the planning, design, and operational features of preferential high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on highways. Information is provided on the current and proposed state of the practice in North America. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to preferential treatment for HOVs on highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on long-distance facilities, such as barrier-separated, concurrent-flow (separated and nonseparated), and contraflow facilities, as well as on short-distance facilities, such as queue by-pass lanes. Planning, design, and operational features of each treatment are described. The issues and operating results are described, and specific case studies are included.
