Hydraulic Extrusion Presses

Hydraulic Extrusion Presses PDF Author: Ernst Müller
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642530230
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 264

Book Description
The wide variety of hydraulic presses used for the manufacture of tubes, cable sheathing, rods, profiles, and wire in nonferrous metals has gone through an extraordinarily interesting development which commenced about 50 years ago after the advent of high-tensile hot working steels and has since adapted itself to the steadily growing de mands of the metalworking industry. This development has especially been promoted in Germany where many of the old presses are still in use for the extrusion of rods and tubes in heavy metals, and lead, already decades ago, to the construction of hydraulic presses which rank among the largest equipment built for noncutting shaping of metals. This book, therefore, draws in the main upon the German deve lopment, giving an account of the advances made in extrusion technique and press design and presenting to the reader the sum of the experience gathered. A great number of very instructive works dealing with the techno logical aspects in the extrusion of metals and the results obtained in metallurgical investigations has been published. These, it is true, contain important reference material regarding the design of presses and press tooling, but very few of them give a detailed description of the deve lopment and calculation of the machines or the requirements to be met by presses and tooling, so that the present book is to fill a gap in the existing literature.

Soils and Groundwater Pollution and Remediation

Soils and Groundwater Pollution and Remediation PDF Author: P. M. Huang
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000115186
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 401

Book Description
The increasing population densities of Asia, Africa and Oceania are in conflict with the ecosystem. A growing demand for food and fiber causes agriculture to rely heavily upon chemical fertilization, herbicides and pesticides. Rising industrial output creates higher contamination from cadmium, lead, selenium, and other metals. Soils and Groundwater Remediation explores the toxic levels of metals, radionuclides, inorganics, and anthropogenic organic compounds found in the soils and groundwater of Asia, Africa and Oceania. This 14 chapter book reviews the distribution, transformation, and dynamics of the pollutants. The authors also reflect on the impact of Acid-rain. The contributors to this book are well-known scientists from Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, and Kenya. The authors address their findings to researchers, educators, government regulators, and students. As the title suggests, the book is ultimately concerned with remediation. Huang and Iskandar feel "the potential for restoring ecosystem health ... in these areas is enormous." The contributions of Soils and Groundwater Remediation will bring science closer to achieving that possibility.

The Nutritional Biochemistry of Chromium(III)

The Nutritional Biochemistry of Chromium(III) PDF Author: John Vincent
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080475396
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 293

Book Description
Chromium nutritional supplements are the second best selling mineral supplements after calcium as chromium is found in pills, sports drinks, chewing gums, smoothies, and numerous other products. Chromium has been promoted to promote weight loss and muscle development and most recently to be available to treat the symptoms of type 2 diabetes and related conditions. The aim of The Nutritional Biochemistry of Chromium(III) is to examine the four most controversial areas of chromium nutrition and biochemistry: - is chromium an essential element for humans and are chromium nutritional supplements of value? - what biochemical role, if any, does chromium play in the body - can large doses of chromium(III) be used to treat symptoms of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and related medical conditions - is the use of chromium(III) supplements a health concern. Scientific experts, who are recognized leaders in the field, weigh in with their opinions on both sides of these issues in this book.A background review of the field from 1955-1995 by Vincent opens the book and concludes with a summary by Dr. Forrest Nielsen, Center Director of the USDA's Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center concludes the book.* Point-counterpoint format, providing both sides of major issues* Complete coverage of current issues, including nutrition, health, biochemical role and toxicology* Authors are recognised experts and leaders in this field
