Psychotherapeutic Attraction

Psychotherapeutic Attraction PDF Author: Arnold P. Goldstein
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483154963
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 261

Book Description
Psychotherapeutic Attraction is an experimental study that focuses on gauging whether the effects of relationship and attraction between therapist and patient are potent when it comes to psychotherapy, as both theory and research suggests. The book is not limited to the relationship between therapist and patient, as it also includes clinical reports of successful ""treatment"" of patients by diverse paraprofessionals and lay people. The book includes a short introduction of the psychotherapeutic relationship and interpersonal attraction; an analysis of direct structuring, trait structuring, and therapist structuring to the relationship of the therapist and patient as well as the effectiveness of therapy; and the effects of relationship and attraction in matching, modeling, and role-playing. The book is meant for psychotherapists, psychologists, and psychology undergraduates who wish to know if relationship, interaction, attraction, transference and co-transference between therapists, patients, and the people around them effect the therapy, as well as those who wish to improve current psychotherapy practices or seek alternative ones.

1St Things 1St

1St Things 1St PDF Author: John Rodgers
Publisher: Balboa Press
ISBN: 1504336240
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 138

Book Description
1st Things 1st is a tad different than most books and programs related to the Law of Attraction (LOA), as it does not promise results and wild expectations, but informs the reader that the efficacy of the LOA is undeniable. Intentional execution is the most elusive undertaking we can dare to attempt. While the philosophy is simple and the performance practically unconscious, there are prerequisites that need be in place to allow the purposeful unfoldment of desire. These requirements are nothing more than what most religious leaders preach from the pulpit every Sunday. John attempts to show an unmistakable congruence between the teachings of Christ and the New Age philosophy of oneness/LOA. This is all presented with no promises or expectations and the humble disclaimer of the struggles the author himself experiences with his journey daily. This is the LOA unedited, real, and down to earth.

Rhyme and Reason

Book Description
This unusual book takes the form of a dialogue between a linguist and another scientist. This unusual book takes the form of a dialogue between a linguist and another scientist. The dialogue takes place over six days, with each day devoted to a particular topic--and the ensuing digressions. The role of the linguist is to present the fundamentals of the minimalist program of contemporary generative grammar. Although the linguist serves essentially as a voice for Noam Chomsky's ideas, he is not intended to be a portrait of Chomsky himself. The other scientist functions as a kind of devil's advocate, making the arguments that linguists tend to face from those in the "harder" sciences. The author does far more than simply present the minimalist program. He conducts a running argument over the status of theoretical linguistics as a natural science. He raises the general issues of how we conceive words, phrases, and transformations, and what these processes tell us about the human mind. He also attempts to reconcile generative grammar with the punctuated equilibrium version of evolutionary theory. In his foreword, Massimo Piatelli-Palmarini says, "The vast number of readers who have been enthralled by Goedel, Escher, Bach may well like also this syntactic companion, a sort of 'Chomsky, Fibonacci, Bach.'".

Wh-Scope Marking

Wh-Scope Marking PDF Author: Uli Lutz
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 902728430X
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 491

Book Description
This volume is the first comprehensive overview of the syntax and semantics of wh-scope marking. Wh-scope marking constructions have recently received a lot of attention; their very existence and their intricate properties have important consequences for syntax, semantics, and the syntax–semantics interface (e.g., with respect to the wh-criterion, the wh-movement parameter, feature checking, the theory of locality, the interpretation of wh-phrases and why-chains, and the nature of LF). The fifteen contributions share the basic assumptions of the Chomskyan approach to syntax and the model-theoretic approach to semantics; they address a variety of languages (among them German, Hindi, Hungarian, English, Frisian, Kikuyu, and Malay). A recurrent theme in all articles is whether wh-scope marking should be analyzed in terms of a direct, indirect, or mixed dependency. The wealth of cross-linguistic empirical evidence and the theory-independent relevance of the conclusions should make this book the ultimate source of information on wh-scope marking for years to come.

Book Description
On Wieland; or the Transformation: "An impressive edition . . . the most thoroughly satisfying historical and literary contextualization for the novel that I've ever encountered. Shapiro and Barnard offer a rich transatlantic artistic and ideological context that helps pull the whole novel into coherent focus. The footnotes to the novel are incredibly thorough, helpful, and interesting. . . . This Hackett edition of Wieland [is] the freshest and most topical of those now available." --Dana D. Nelson, Vanderbilt University On Ormond; or, the Secret Witness: "Philip Barnard and Stephen Shapiro have produced an awesome edition of Brown's Ormond by providing copious explanatory notes and helpful documentation of the essential historical context of feminist, radical, egalitarian, and abolitionist expression. Oh, ye patriots, read it and learn!" --Peter Linebaugh, University of Toledo On Arthur Mervyn; or, Memoirs of the Year 1793: "This new edition of Arthur Mervyn far exceeds any previous version of this remarkable American novel. Through exhaustive archival research, the editors have produced a reliable text constructed within the intellectual, cultural, political, and religious contexts of a society informing Brown's efforts to capture and preserve the formation of the early republic for generations of readers and cultural historians. This vital text is essential reading for anyone interested in the origins of the United States." --Emory Elliott, University Professor, University of California-Riverside On Edgar Huntly; or, Memoirs of a Sleep-Walker: "This is now the edition of choice for those of us who teach Brown's fascinating Edgar Huntly. Barnard and Shapiro explore the relevant historical, cultural, and literary backgrounds in their illuminating Introduction; they skillfully annotate the text; they provide useful and up-to-date bibliographies; and they append a number of revealing primary texts for further cultural contextualization. This edition will help to stimulate new thinking about race, empire, and sexuality in Brown's prescient novel of the American frontier." --Robert S. Levine, University of Maryland
