Book Description
"...The Multiversal book series is equally unique, providing book-length extensions of the lectures with enough additional depth for those who truly want to explore these fields, while also providing the kind of clarity that is appropriate for interested lay people to grasp the general principles involved." - Lawrence M. Krauss Cosmic Update Covers: A novel approach to uncover the dark faces of the Standard Model of cosmology. The possibility that Dark Energy and Dark Matter are manifestations of the inhomogeneous geometry of our Universe. On the history of cosmological model building and the general architecture of cosmological modes. Illustrations on the Large Scale Structure of the Universe. A new perspective on the classical static Einstein Cosmos. Global properties of World Models including their Topology. The Arrow of Time in a Universe with a Positive Cosmological Constant. Exploring the consequences of a fundamental Cosmological Constant for our Universe. Exploring why the current observed acceleration of the Universe may not be its final destiny. Demonstrating that nature forbids the existence of a pure Cosmological Constant. Our current understanding of the long term (in time scales that greatly exceed the current age of the Universe) future of the Universe. The long term fate and eventual destruction of the astrophysical objects that populate the universe -- including clusters, galaxies, stars, planets, and black holes. The material is presented in a layperson-friendly language followed by addition technical sections that explain the basic equations and principles. This feature is very attractive to readers who want to learn more about the theories involved beyond the basic description. Our Cosmic Habitat

Our Cosmic Habitat PDF Author: Martin Rees
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 1400888980
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 232

Book Description
Our universe seems strangely ''biophilic,'' or hospitable to life. Is this happenstance, providence, or coincidence? According to cosmologist Martin Rees, the answer depends on the answer to another question, the one posed by Einstein's famous remark: ''What interests me most is whether God could have made the world differently.'' This highly engaging book explores the fascinating consequences of the answer being ''yes.'' Rees explores the notion that our universe is just a part of a vast ''multiverse,'' or ensemble of universes, in which most of the other universes are lifeless. What we call the laws of nature would then be no more than local bylaws, imposed in the aftermath of our own Big Bang. In this scenario, our cosmic habitat would be a special, possibly unique universe where the prevailing laws of physics allowed life to emerge. Rees begins by exploring the nature of our solar system and examining a range of related issues such as whether our universe is or isn't infinite. He asks, for example: How likely is life? How credible is the Big Bang theory? Rees then peers into the long-range cosmic future before tracing the causal chain backward to the beginning. He concludes by trying to untangle the paradoxical notion that our entire universe, stretching 10 billion light-years in all directions, emerged from an infinitesimal speck. As Rees argues, we may already have intimations of other universes. But the fate of the multiverse concept depends on the still-unknown bedrock nature of space and time on scales a trillion trillion times smaller than atoms, in the realm governed by the quantum physics of gravity. Expanding our comprehension of the cosmos, Our Cosmic Habitat will be read and enjoyed by all those--scientists and nonscientists alike--who are as fascinated by the universe we inhabit as is the author himself.

The New Cosmic Story

The New Cosmic Story PDF Author: John F. Haught
Publisher: Yale University Press
ISBN: 030021703X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
A foremost thinker on science and religion argues that an adequate understanding of cosmic history requires attention to the emergence of interiority, including religious aspiration Over the past two centuries scientific advances have made it clear that the universe is a story still unfolding. In this thought-provoking book, John F. Haught considers the deeper implications of this discovery. He contends that many others who have written books on life and the universe--including Stephen Hawking, Stephen Jay Gould, and Richard Dawkins--have overlooked a crucial aspect of cosmic history: the drama of life's awakening to interiority and religious awareness. Science may illuminate the outside story of the universe, but a full telling of the cosmic story cannot ignore the inside development that interiority represents. Haught addresses two primary questions: what does the arrival of religion tell us about the universe, and what does our understanding of the cosmos as an unfinished drama tell us about religion? The history of religion may be ambiguous and sometimes even barbarous, he asserts, but its role in the story of cosmic emergence and awakening must be taken into account.

The Book of Theanna, Updated Edition

The Book of Theanna, Updated Edition PDF Author: Ellias Lonsdale
Publisher: North Atlantic Books
ISBN: 1583943374
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 386

Book Description
The Book of Theanna contains a collection of letters written by Ellias, which he began transcribing from Theanna (formerly Sara Lonsdale), his wife and twin soul, shortly after her death. They communicate and commune through a sacred impulse that rises from the Earth and descends from the Heavens. It is this very current that brings forth a path into the Age of Aquaria. In the course of these writings, Sara journeys to Heaven and Hell and the vast Lands in between. She paints vivid pictures of her encounters in each of these realms. Through the teachings she brings ways to break the crystallized shell holding us back from ultimate self-love and forgiveness. Waving the smelling salts through the words, she discusses illness, karma, the dark side, the Lord of Death, Christ, the death minds, and how to awaken to Truth. There is an immense need for Death’s truth to fully reveal itself. What this updated edition carries is a renewed and refreshed revelation—death is a different death than was ever possible before. It can now come forward in a redemptive fashion. Not just another account of life after death, not a channeled book in the usual sense, The Book of Theanna comes to break death’s spell with the power and intensity of Love from across the veil now returned to Earth.
