Category : Alloys

Pages : 4
Book Description
The data herein presented on the compositions and properties of the corrosion-resisting and heat-resisting chromium and chromium-nickel steels have been assembled by Subcommittee I on Classification of Data, of Committee A-10 on Iron-Chromium, Iron-Chromium-Nickel, and Related Alloys, of the American Society for Testing Materials. The data in this publication represent a revision of corresponding data given in the "Symposium on Corrosion-Resistant, Heat-Resistant, and Electrical-Resistance Alloys," held in 1924, and the "Tables of Chemical Compositions, Physical and Mechanical Properties, and Corrosion-Resistant Properties of Corrosion-Resistant and Heat-Resistant Alloys," published by the A.S.T.M. in 1930. In these earlier publications data were presented on a broad range of materials which included both ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, as well as the stainless steels. Because of the tremendous increase in the commercial importance of the stainless steels during recent years, it was decided that their properties should be tabulated in a separate publication.

Woldman's Engineering Alloys
Author: John P. Frick
Publisher: ASM International
ISBN: 0871706911
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1369
Book Description
Annotation New edition of a reference that presents the values of properties typical for the most common alloy processing conditions, thus providing a starting point in the search for a suitable material that will allow, with proper use, all the necessary design limitations to be met (strength, toughness, corrosion resistance and electronic properties, etc.) The data is arranged alphabetically and contains information on the manufacturer, the properties of the alloy, and in some cases its use. The volume includes 32 tables that present such information as densities, chemical elements and symbols, physical constants, conversion factors, specification requirements, and compositions of various alloys and metals. Also contains a section on manufacturer listings with contact information. Edited by Frick, a professional engineering consultant. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).

Corrosion Resistance of Copper and Copper Alloys
Author: Michael Schütze
Publisher: Wiley-VCH
ISBN: 9783527332243
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 752
Book Description
Copper and its alloys have been utilized for more than 10,000 years. Today, copper is one of the most commonly used metals in the world; 24 million tons are consumed worldwide. A wide variety of copper alloys are used in a range of applications. As well as good mechanical properties, the excellent electrical conductivity and thermal conduction are reasons copper alloys are deployed in many industrial fields. Copper plays a role in electronic and electrical applications and all forms of heat transfer. In automobiles as well as in houses copper could not be replaced. In the sanitary industry copper and brass are well established, for example, drinking water pipes have been used for decades without problems. While the corrosion resistance of copper and its alloys is excellent in unpolluted air and drinking water, corrosion rates in impure environments can be much higher and lead to severe material damage. Corrosion is a system property, so it is important to find the right copper material with regard to the environmental conditions it will be exposed to. This handbook highlights the limitations of the use of copper and its alloys in various corrosive solutions and provides vital information on corrosion protection measures.

Development and Properties of Uranium-base Alloys Corrosion Resistant in High Temperature Water
Author: I. Cohen
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Uranium alloys
Languages : en
Pages : 322
Book Description
The effects of pile irradiations on the physical properties and corrosion resistance of U-- Mo, U-- Nb; and U--Si alloys are reported. The dimensional stability under irradiation of the gamma phase U-- Mo and U-- Nb alloys is excellent; however, an isotropic volume increase of 4 to 6% per wt.% burnup may limit the ultimate fuel element life. Corrosion resistance of the gamma-phase alloys appesrs to be improved when subjected to s neutron field; this is attributed to an irrsdiation induced stabilization of the gamma phases. The U/ sub 3/Si alloy, on the other hand, suffered severe deterioration, particularly of corrosion resistance. Changes in electrical resistivity, hardness, mechanical properties, and crystal structure are presented and the mechanisms producing the observed changes discussed.
