Book Description
Excerpt from Correspondence Study in Universities and Colleges, Vol. 10 Sir: A very large and important part of the extension work of universities, colleges and departments of education is done through correspondence, thus giving to large numbers of men and women who can not go to college or attend set courses of lectures an opportunity to profit by well-directed reading and study and by scholarly criticism. To make it possible for all educational extension agencies to profit by the experience of those which have done most in this particular line of work, I recommend that the manuscript transmitted herewith be published as a bulletin of the Bureau of Education. It was prepared at my request by Dr. Arthur J. Klein, now executive secretary of the National University Extension Association, and formerly associate director of the Educational Extension Division of this Bureau. Book Description
Excerpt from The Administration of Correspondence-Study Departments of Universities and Colleges Local conditions and resources are so different, personal preferences are so various, and the field for administrative development is so large, that few judgments have been expressed upon the practice here described. An attempt has been made to collect in systematic order the typical practices and methods of correspondence depart ments, rather than 'to attempt a statistical statement or tabulation Of the extent of any Of these practices and methods. The methods of particular institutions have been set down as typical, therefore, without mention of other institutions which follow the same method. The fact that one institution has been mentioned instead of another 'does.not mean that the institution cited originated the method illustrated by its practice, nor that it best exemplifies the point. The writer was of necessity compelled to choose his illustrative mate rial from that which extension directors were kind enough to supply. If he has made mistakes in selection, he hopes that the fact will not be ascribed to any prejudice in favor of or against any institution. What have been their pretensions hitherto, and what is contented for now? About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
