Corporate Governance in Tanzania

Corporate Governance in Tanzania PDF Author: Peter C. Mhando
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0429619863
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
Increasingly the importance of corporate governance for economic development in developing economies like Tanzania is indisputable. This book explores the effectiveness of corporate governance in Tanzania and asks how it can be further developed and improved so as to make a difference in the contribution of state-owned enterprises to the economy. The book tries as fairly as possible to probe further into effective corporate governance, using cases of public entities, highlighting shortfalls in their governance and the consequent multiplier effects on socio-economic life. On the other hand, the book also aims to present examples of good governance in multi-layered ways, to show that there is room for creativity and innovation in applying principles of good corporate governance. Recognising that context is crucial, the book starts by assessing Tanzania’s socio-historical and economic context, and gauging various applicable metrics. Using historical and theoretical lenses, including the ethics-accountability relationship, the author aims to improve our understanding of corporate failures and consequent waste in Tanzania. Explaining failures in governance is far from straightforward, as by definition they operate beyond rules and regulations, systems and processes, yet the author draws from decades of local experience and expertise in order to assess the real situation on the ground. The Tanzania case will be of considerable interest to researchers looking at questions of corporate governance and economic development both within the country itself, and across Africa.

The Routledge Handbook of Global and Digital Governance Crossroads

The Routledge Handbook of Global and Digital Governance Crossroads PDF Author: Preeti Shroff-Mehta
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1040095348
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 632

Book Description
This handbook maps and analyzes cross-sector (public–corporate–social–community–faith) governance theories, models, and practices as they are evolving in a digital world. It studies human, cultural, societal, institutional interactions and challenges in a digitally enabled world, especially in the context of post-crisis resilience and agility. Every global crisis forces societies and nations to realign while addressing deeper structural and cultural issues in governance. The Covid-19 pandemic has necessitated swift local-to-global governance responses for timely digital innovations for health crisis interventions, economic recovery, and societal equity. While every nation-state is developing global pandemic responses in a digitally enabled world, the deeper crisis of human, institutional, and societal governance deficit is also evident. This handbook documents digital governance innovations that enhance stakeholder engagement and inclusion for resilient, accountable, and effective governance across sectors. This volume reflects on a range of theoretical frameworks adapted for understanding global and digital governance. It looks at international governance collaborations; corporate governance reform; education governance innovations; public sector and urban governance; health system governance, sustainability, and environmental governance; community and faith-based governance; and digital, cultural, and creativity governance. This book is unique, as it presents important work on post Covid-19 digital and democratic governance and brings together holistic—interdisciplinary and intersectoral— perspectives from the Global North and Global South, engaging the leading scholars, practitioners, businesses, and civil society. It will be of interest to multi-sector institutions and global audiences: governments, corporates, social sector institutions, digital entrepreneurs, students and researchers, academic professionals, policy-makers, public and private sector institutional leaders, and organizational and entrepreneurial innovators interested in the field of governance.

Book Description
In this chapter, we examine new evidence to ascertain the extent to which the quality of CG standards can be related to the emergence of a rule-based economic policy framework and the subsequent reduction in macroeconomic instability. The analysis below suggests that the positive impact of the change in the economic policy framework is still evident, but there is still significant resistance to change in a number of areas.
