The Bluebell Oil Field, Uinta Basin, Duchesne and Uintah Counties, Utah

The Bluebell Oil Field, Uinta Basin, Duchesne and Uintah Counties, Utah PDF Author: Craig D. Morgan
Publisher: Utah Geological Survey
ISBN: 155791690X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 105

Book Description
Hydrocarbon production in the Bluebell field is from three reservoirs in the Tertiary-aged Colton and Green River Formations: (1) overpressured Colton/Flagstaff, (2) lower Green River, and (3) upper Green River. Kerogen-rich shale and marlstone deposited in marginal and nearshore openlacustrine environments are the source of the waxy crude in the Colton/Flagstaff and lower Green River. Marlstone, or oil shale and possibly coal, are the sources for the asphaltic crude found in the upper Green River. Non-associated gas in the upper Green River could be from coaly deposits in the upper Green River, or migrated up from the lower Green River, or a combination of both. The lithology of all three reservoirs is similar; fractured sandstone, shale, limestone, and marlstone beds having generally low intergranular porosity and permeability. The strata were deposited in lacustrine and alluvial environments.

Core Values: the Role of Core in Twenty-first Century Reservoir Characterization

Core Values: the Role of Core in Twenty-first Century Reservoir Characterization PDF Author: A. Neal
Publisher: Geological Society of London
ISBN: 1786205750
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 419

Book Description
Deep subsurface characterization technologies and demands are changing rapidly within the energy industry. In this swiftly evolving landscape, the wide range of analyses performed on the rocks and fluids obtained from cores remain fundamental tools in managing subsurface uncertainty and associated risk. During the energy transition large volumes of newly acquired and legacy core will be accessed to better understand both existing hydrocarbon resources and other subsurface energy-related systems, particularly for carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), geothermal energy and the long-term storage of nuclear waste. Through state-of-the-art reviews and case studies this volume illustrates how innovative approaches continue to create value from both new and historical cores recovered for deep subsurface reservoir characterization and storage complex evaluation. Such an assessment is timely given that the sector sits at a pivotal point in terms of changing technologies, economics, demographics, skillsets and energy solutions.

Enhanced Oil Recovery, II

Enhanced Oil Recovery, II PDF Author: E.C. Donaldson
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080868738
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 619

Book Description
Written by foremost experts in the field, and formulated with attention to classroom use for advanced studies in reservoir characterization and processes, this book reviews and summarises state-of-the-art progress in the field of enhanced oil recovery (EOR). All of the available techniques: alkaline flooding; surfactant flooding; carbon dioxide flooding; steam flooding; in-situ combustion; gas injection; miscible flooding; microbial recovery; and polymer flooding are discussed and compared. Together with Volume I, it presents a complete text on enhanced recovery technology and, hence, is an almost indispensible reference text. This second volume compliments the first by presenting as complete an analysis as possible of current oilfield theory and technology, for accomplishment of maximum production of oil. Many different processes have been developed and field tested for enhancement of oil recovery. The emerging philosophy is that no single process is applicable to all petroleum reservoirs. Each must be treated as unique, and carefully evaluated for characteristics that are amenable to one or two of the proven technologies of EOR. This book will aid the engineer in field evaluation and selection of the best EOR technology for a given oilfield. Even the emerging technology of microbial applications to enhance oil recovery are reviewed and explained in terms that are easily understood by field engineers. The book is presented in a manner suitable for graduate studies. The only addition required of teachers is to supply example problems for class work. An appendix includes a reservoir mathematic model and program for general application that can also be used for teaching.

Shale Oil and Shale Gas Resources

Shale Oil and Shale Gas Resources PDF Author: José A. Torres
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 303928875X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
This multidisciplinary book covers a wide range of topics addressing critical challenges for advancing the understanding and management of shale oil and shale gas resources. Both fundamental and practical issues are considered. By covering a variety of technical topics, we aim to contribute to building a more integrated perspective to meet major challenges faced by shale resources. Combining complementary techniques and examining multiple sources of data serve to advance our current knowledge about these unconventional reservoirs. The book is a result of interdisciplinary and collaborative work. The content includes contributions authored by active scientists with ample expertise in their fields. Each article was carefully peer-reviewed by researchers, and the editorial process was performed by an experienced team of Senior Editors, Guest Editors, Topic Editors, and Editorial Board Members. The first part is devoted to fundamental topics, mostly investigated on the laboratory scale. The second part elaborates on larger scales (at near-wellbore and field scales). Finally, two related technologies, which could be relevant for shale plays applications, are presented. With this Special Issue, we provide a channel for sharing information and lessons learned collected from different plays and from different disciplines.
