L’alimentation est au cœur des préoccupations des éleveurs. Le but de l’alimentation minérale est d’assurer les apports en oligoéléments de façon à couvrir au mieux les besoins des animaux afin d’éviter l’apparition de carence ou d’intoxication. La ration constituée des fourrages, des correcteurs azotés et des aliments de production, doit souvent être complétée par un apport d’aliment minéral. Cette étude a pour but de calculer l’apport naturel des oligoéléments zinc, cuivre, manganèse, iode, sélénium, cobalt, par la ration et d’étudier les concentrations sanguines et laitières de ces oligoéléments par la méthode ICP-MS, comme outil d’évaluation du statut nutritionnel. Il s’avère que le calcul théorique de la ration permet une approche plus précise de ce statut.

This work brings together a wealth of data regarding the reference values and factors of variation in biochemical parameters used by camel veterinarians and scientists to determine these animals’ nutritional and clinical status. It also explores several technical aspects involved in determining these parameters, sampling procedures, and essential elements in the interpretation of the results. Though many texts are available on small and large ruminants, much less is known about species confined to the marginal zones of tropical and Mediterranean countries, such as camels. This book addresses precisely this research gap, on the one hand by presenting an extensive review of the literature, and on the other by synthesizing the outcomes of the authors’ numerous previous works. In veterinary medicine, blood tests to help diagnose diseases in cattle were first proposed nearly a century ago, but were mainly developed in the 1960s, initially at specialized research or veterinary services laboratories, and eventually, with the advent of new equipment and the miniaturization of the analyzers, finding their way into veterinarians’ cabinets. Beyond their diagnostic value, veterinary surgeons and zootechnicians also speculated on the potential use of blood tests to evaluate animals’ nutritional status. Thus, a whole range of analyses are now proposed to the stakeholders responsible for animal health. Such analyses could help to define a metabolic profile, which would offer a valuable decision-making tool for experts and researchers alike.

Les oligo-éléments sont indispensables de par leurs implications dans divers métabolismes. Pour autant les valeurs de référence de leurs apports ou de leur dosage plasmatique restent imprécises, notamment à cause des variations de leur teneur dans les fourrages, de la diversité des types de production et des méthodes analytiques. Cette étude a donc pour objectifs, à partir de 6620 prélèvements dosés par ICP-MS de 2007 à 2013 au LEAV de Vendée, de se confronter aux valeurs plasmatiques de référence de sept oligo-éléments (cobalt, cuivre, iode, manganèse, molybdène, sélénium et zinc) proposées par la littérature et d’analyser les facteurs de variation notamment géographiques, en réalisant une cartographie à l’échelle française, mais également cliniques afin d’étudier l’association potentielle entre des profils cliniques et certains profils de carence en oligo-éléments. Au final, les valeurs de référence obtenues à travers notre échantillon confirment celles de la littérature avec néanmoins une distinction possible entre les bovins allaitants et laitiers. Des régions plus à risque de subcarences (iode et sélénium) se dégagent, principalement l’Auvergne, la Bourgogne, le Limousin, l’Aquitaine et les Pays de la Loire. Enfin, bien que l’implication de certaines carences en oligo-éléments dans la survenue plus fréquente de certaines maladies se dessine, il n’existe pas de profil caractéristique de carences en oligo-éléments associé aux maladies répertoriées dans notre échantillon.
