El programa apoya actividades formativas priorizando: las aulas de informática, las conferencias y tertulias, y un nuevo modelo de participación a través del voluntariado. Esta investigacin presenta una propuesta de trabajo con adultos mayores a partir de un Modelo de Atencin para el cuidado de adultos mayores a partir del mtodo Montessori. El Modelo est siendo utilizado en una casa de cuidado de adultos mayores en el Estado de Colima, en el cual se han ido modificando las estrategias de atencin en donde se busca principalmente el desarrollo de habilidades sociales, a partir de actividades ldico-recreativas, que les permite interactuar entre ellos. Adems se destaca la importancia de la relacin del cuidador-adulto mayor, y de la necesidad de contar con personal profesional. Este trabajo de investigacin muestra la aplicacin del Modelo haciendo al final una propuesta de actividades as como de la creacin de una ludoteca para adultos mayores. Invitamos a los lectores a revisar el documento, as como a proponer acciones en beneficio de los adultos mayores, particularmente de los institucionalizados, para que se generen programas sociales; de igual forma a quienes cuidan adultos mayores para que se preparen cada da y puedan brindar un servicio con calidad y calidez, finalmente para los profesionistas quienes tienen una gran oportunidad de generar cambios en la atencin de este grupo etario, que muchas veces se encuentra abandonado.

This book represents a multidisciplinary and international vision across different countries in Europe that are facing similar challenges about ageing and quality of life in present cities. It is divided in three main topics from the global context of health in cities and reduction of health inequities to the current research of different study cases, focusing on residential models and the relationship with the built environment. The third chapter illustrates best practices with some study cases from different cities in Europe. Friendlier environments for older people come together with the need of innovation, smart and updated technologies, healthier environments and mitigation of climate change. Health re-appears nowadays as one of the priorities for urban planning and design, not only for the communicable diseases and the effect of the pandemics, but also for the non-communicable diseases, that were also triggering the wellbeing and equity of our cities. Indeed, the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted health inequities and vulnerabilities of those areas of the city that were already deprived and facing other health problems, such as obesity, diabetes, social isolation, respiratory problems or mental health issues, specifically applying for vulnerable groups. Older adults have been one of the most affected groups from the pandemic’s threats and derived consequences. It is widely recognized that Latinos are a sizable and diverse population and that we are a young demographic. The median age of non-Hispanic white Americans is 58, whereas for Latinos it is 30.Footnote1 Perhaps this partially explains the dearth of attention afforded to the topic of aging Latinos by academic scholarship and the mainstream media. This special issue compellingly alerts us to the reality that there is a growing, aging Latino population about which we know very little and that deserves our attention. I am grateful to Katynka Martínez and Mérida Rúa for curating “The Art of Latina and Latino Elderhood,” since this special issue responds to this significant gap in our knowledge with an exciting set of academic articles and creative contributions that challenges not only our assumptions about Latinos and aging but also our thinking on the types of contributions we include in our journal pages. Katynka and Mérida make the case that the story of Latino elderhood is best conveyed through a truly multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, bringing together public policy, humanistic social sciences, and artistic interventions.
