Este trabalho discute o perfil dos representantes dos segmentos da comunidade escolar analisando as implicações decorrentes de sua diferenciação para a dinâmica de funcionamento dos Conselhos Escolares. Os dados decorrem da sistematização de informações levantadas por meio de questionário aplicado em reuniões de discussão do tema Conselhos Escolares junto aos representantes dos diferentes segmentos. O trabalho tem por objetivo refletir acerca de dados característicos tais como faixa etária, escolarização e as experiências anteriores de participação dos componentes dos Conselhos Escolares, capazes de fornecer subsídios para levantar hipóteses acerca de seu funcionamento. A problemática ao redor da qual a análise se realiza centra-se nas conseqüências decorrentes da diferenciação de comportamentos e na participação como experiência de vida pressupondo que indivíduos que já tiveram vivência em Sindicatos, Entidades Comunitárias, Partido-Político, respondem mais ativamente a espaços de participação dentro da escola. Os Conselhos Escolares constituem-se heterogeneamente pelas possibilidades de contribuição de cada segmento da comunidade escolar; são um desafio para a compreensão pelos processos de escolha de representantes, pelo contato destes com os representados e na relação entre eles, pela busca de objetivos. São espaço de construção comunitária, de aprendizagem, de elaboração e de acompanhamento da proposta da escola pública.
