Book Description
Cyber-physical systems are the next step in realizing the centuries old ubiquitous computing idea by focusing on open real-time systems design and device connectivity. Mobile ad hoc networks offer the flexible, local connectivity that cyber-physical systems require, if the connectivity can be realized dependably. One aspect of the dependability is the prediction of connectivity in the mobile ad hoc network. The presented research contributes to the connectivity prediction in mobile ad hoc networks with moving network participants in two ways: It systematically analyses the influence of scenario parameters on a set of connectivity metrics and it proposes and evaluates three classes of prediction models for these metrics.

Book Description
This book identifies the time-dependent network parameters: neighbour count, link load, path length, cluster count and delay, and presents a first-of-its-kind discussion on temporal parameters in mobile ad hoc networks. Frequent topology changes and multiple link failures occur in mobile ad hoc network due to arbitrary and random movement of nodes. This dynamic environment challenges the delivery of data and makes it essential to find better models for network parameters that are shifting with time. The parameters identified are put into the framework of time series because of their temporal characteristic, and when they are modelled using time series framework they exhibit a sound fit with Autoregressive AR(p) models of order p. The order p is evaluated for each fitted model and found to lie between one and three. The book also analyses the dependence of end-to-end delay of ad hoc network on various external factors such as the number of nodes, routing protocol, mobility models and path length and develops two prediction models. The book will be useful for researchers and professionals alike.

Book Description
The Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) has emerged as the next frontier for wireless communications networking in both the military and commercial arena. Handbook of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for Mobility Models introduces 40 different major mobility models along with numerous associate mobility models to be used in a variety of MANET networking environments in the ground, air, space, and/or under water mobile vehicles and/or handheld devices. These vehicles include cars, armors, ships, under-sea vehicles, manned and unmanned airborne vehicles, spacecrafts and more. This handbook also describes how each mobility pattern affects the MANET performance from physical to application layer; such as throughput capacity, delay, jitter, packet loss and packet delivery ratio, longevity of route, route overhead, reliability, and survivability. Case studies, examples, and exercises are provided throughout the book. Handbook of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for Mobility Models is for advanced-level students and researchers concentrating on electrical engineering and computer science within wireless technology. Industry professionals working in the areas of mobile ad hoc networks, communications engineering, military establishments engaged in communications engineering, equipment manufacturers who are designing radios, mobile wireless routers, wireless local area networks, and mobile ad hoc network equipment will find this book useful as well.

Book Description
With modern communication networks continuing to grow in traffic, size, complexity, and variety, control systems are critical to ensure quality and effectively manage network traffic. Providing a thorough and authoritative introduction, Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks: Protocols, Performance, and Control examines the theory, architectures, and technologies needed to implement quality of service (QoS) in a wide variety of communication networks. Based on years of research and practical experience, this book examines the technical concepts underlying the design, implementation, research, and invention of both wired and wireless networks. The author builds a strong understanding of general concepts and common principles while also exploring issues that are specific to wired, cellular, wireless ad hoc, and sensor networks. Beginning with an overview of networks and QoS control, he systematically explores timely areas such as Lyapunov analysis, congestion control of high-speed networks, admission control based on hybrid system theory, distributed power control of various network types, link state routing using QoS parameters, and predictive congestion control. The book also provides a framework for implementing QoS control using mote hardware. Providing a deeply detailed yet conveniently practical guide to QoS implementation, Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks: Protocols, Performance, and Control is the perfect introduction for anyone new to the field as well as an ideal reference guide for seasoned network practitioners.

Book Description
In the last few years, there has been extensive research activity in the emerging area of Intermittently Connected Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (ICMANs). By considering the nature of intermittent connectivity in most real word mobile environments without any restrictions placed on users’ behavior, ICMANs are eventually formed without any assumption with regard to the existence of a end-to-end path between two nodes wishing to communicate. It is different from the conventional Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), which have been implicitly viewed as a connected graph with established complete paths between every pair of nodes. For the conventional MANETs, mobility of nodes is considered as a challenge and needs to be handled properly to enable seamless communication between nodes. However, to overcome intermittent connectivity in the ICMANs context, mobility is recognized as a critical component for data communications between the nodes that may never be part of the same connected portion of the network. This comes at the cost of addition considerable delay in data forwarding, since data are often stored and carried by the intermediate nodes waiting for the mobility to generate the next forwarding opportunity that can probably bring it close to the destination. Such incurred large delays primarily limit ICMANs to the applications, which must tolerate delays beyond traditional forwarding delays. ICMANs belong to the family of delay tolerant networks (DTNs). However, the unique characteristics (e.g., self-organizing, random mobility and ad hoc based connection) derived from MANETs distinguish ICMANs from other typical DTNs such as interplanetary network (IPN) with infrastructure-based architecture. By allowing mobile nodes to connect and disconnect based on their behaviors and wills, ICMANs enable a number of novel applications to become possible in the field of MANETs. For example, there is a growing demand for efficient architectures for deploying opportunistic content distribution systems over ICMANs. This is because a large number of smart handheld devices with powerful functions enable mobile users to utilize low cost wireless connectivities such as Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11 for sharing and exchanging the multimedia contents anytime anywhere. Note that such phenomenal growth of content-rich services has promoted a new kind of networking where the content is delivered from its source (referred to as publisher) towards interested users (referred to as subscribers) rather than towards the pre-specified destinations. Compared to the extensive research activities relating to the routing and forwarding issues in ICMANs and even DTNs, opportunistic content distribution is just in its early stage and has not been widely addressed. With all these in mind, this book provides an in-depth discussion on the latest research efforts for opportunistic content distribution over ICMANs.
