Category : Economic development

Pages : 51

Book Description
This paper studies the causal effect of transport infrastructure on the spatial concentration of economic activity. Leveraging a new global dataset of geo-located Chinese government-financed projects over the period from 2000 to 2014 together with measures of spatial inequality based on remotely-sensed data, we analyse the effects of transport projects on the spatial distribution of economic activity within and between regions in a large number of developing countries. We find that Chinese-financed transportation projects reduce spatial concentration within but not between regions. In line with land use theory, we document a range of results which are consistent with a relocation of activity from city centers to their immediate periphery. Transport projects decentralize activity particularly strongly in regions that are more urbanized, located closer to the coast, and less developed.

Creative Financing in California

Creative Financing in California PDF Author: Ira S. Lowry
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 120

Book Description
"Creative financing" is the accepted term for certain methods of financing home purchases that were introduced in California during the 1970s and were common practice at the end of the decade. This report describes the growth of creative financing in the context of a major real estate boom that ended in 1981; it then examines the emerging consequences of creatively financed transactions--consequences for those who borrowed and those who lent, and also for future home-purchase transactions. The source of the data used is a survey of about 1,000 home-purchase transactions conducted in 1981 by California Technical Associates, Inc., under contract to the California Department of Real Estate. The author's recommendations for solving some of the problems connected with creative financing include channeling credit to home purchases, default management, and monitoring the market.

Project Financing

Project Financing PDF Author: John D. Finnerty
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9780471146315
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
"As an effective alternative to conventional direct financing, project financing has become one of the hottest topics in corporate finance. It's being used more and more frequently - and more successfully - on a wide variety of high-profile corporate projects, and has long been used to fund large-scale natural resource projects, from pipelines and refineries to electric-generating facilities and hydroelectric projects. But the challenges of successful project financing are immense, and the requirements of the process can easily be misunderstood." "This newly updated edition of Project Financing takes you through the process step by step. Using actual examples and case studies - including Euro Disneyland and the Eurotunnel Project - that illustrate how to apply the analytical techniques described in the book, it covers the rationale for project financing, how to prepare the financial plan, assess the risks, design the financing mix, and raise the funds."--BOOK JACKET.

Financing Small and Medium-size Enterprises with Factoring

Financing Small and Medium-size Enterprises with Factoring PDF Author: Marie-Renée Bakker
Publisher: World Bank Publications
ISBN: 9788389188175
Category : Factoring (Finance)
Languages : en
Pages : 50

Book Description
Factoring is a form of asset-based finance where the credit is extended based on the value of the borrower's accounts receivable. In recent years factoring has experienced phenomenal growth and has become an important source of financing--especially short-term working capital--for small and medium-size enterprises and corporations, reaching a worldwide volume of 760 billion euro in 2003. Although the importance of factoring varies considerably around the world, it occurs in most countries and is growing especially quickly in many developing countries. Bakker, Klapper, and Udell explore the advantages of factoring over other types of lending for firms in developing economies, and discuss the informational, legal, tax, and regulatory barriers to its growth. They also examine the role of factoring in the eight Eastern European countries that became EU members on May 1, 2004--the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia, referred to as the EU 8. The authors conclude that factoring offers key advantages over other lending products and is likely to become more important in these countries, and suggest policies to accelerate its development. This paper--a joint product of the Finance Team, Development Research Group and the Private and Financial Sector Development Department--is part of a larger effort in the Bank to study access to financing.

Political Party Funding and Private Donations in Italy

Political Party Funding and Private Donations in Italy PDF Author: Chiara Fiorelli
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030738698
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 164

Book Description
Despite any evidence against it, political parties still represent the most important collective actor in a democratic political system. Their role in representing pluralism and their electoral centrality is not undermined, even when it is strongly questioned. As long as political parties can be understood as representative actors articulating political demands, this book focuses on the capacity of Italian political parties to mobilize resources and financial resources in particular. Through the analysis of private financial donations to political parties, a neglected source of information that will be fundamental in the near future, the author assesses their connective capability with specific interests’ representatives in the last decades in order to provide evidence of their changing representational role as collective actors.
