Book Description
If I could go back in time to when I graduated from high school or college, there is just one graduation gift that I really wish that someone had given to me. It is THIS book! This is THE book that would have actually prepared me for life after graduation, it is about the real world, and it is filled with the ultimate truths that have taken me half a lifetime to uncover! This book is ideal for everyone. This is the final textbook that every graduate needs to ace the most important test of all, the test of life! Students live in an artificial and unrealistic world where their success is based on memorizing and regurgitating facts and figures. Students adapt to a classroom world where they are fairly judged against others based on their memory and their ability to follow provided instructions. There usually are no work place politics or bias judgements on one’s appearance and background in the classroom. Students only need to face mostly fair and objective tests. In our educational institutions there is little or no mention about how every aspect of one’s appearance and background will be unfairly judged by the world that awaits them after graduation. Students are often told how intelligent they are, but are never actually taught how to think. They solve no real life problems, but they make the Dean’s list. They are not taught how to generate a creative or original thought, but get an “A” by summarizing a book created by someone else. Often students are simply told what to think from the bias perspective of their teacher and their educational institution. So when they graduate they actually have no education on how to think independently, or on how to handle their life. When I graduated everyone told me how smart I was, and they seemed to imply that getting all those “A” grades and degrees completely prepared me for the future. But deep down inside I had so many unanswered questions, I found out the hard way that I was completely uneducated for the rest of my life after graduation! Here are the unanswered life questions that I struggled with: How do you interview for a job? How do you improve your job performance? How do you deal with human bias and work place politics? How do you move up in your career? How do you start and grow your own business? How do you manage your money? How do you stay fit and healthy? How do you build strong positive relationships? How do you stay fit and healthy? And the ultimate question - How do you get more joy in life? So now, looking back on it all, I decided to create the book that answers the questions I had when I graduated. This is THE GRADUATION BOOK and THE REST OF YOUR LIFE BOOK! The truths revealed here will entertain you and shock you! But ultimately this is THE higher education textbook that will allow you to achieve more, to have more, and to enjoy more for the rest of your life!

Book Description
A leading workplace expert provides an inspirational, practical, and forward-looking career playbook for recent grads, career changers, and transitioning professionals looking to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving workplace. Covid-19 has heightened career uncertainty in a work landscape dominated by turbulence and change, and it is directly impacting how people are entering—or re-entering—the workplace. But as Lindsey Pollak makes clear, the pandemic merely accelerated career and hiring trends that have been building. Changes that were once slowly spreading have been rapidly implemented across all industries. This means that the old job hunting and career success rules no longer apply. Job seekers of all generations and skill sets must learn how to thrive in this “new normal,” which will include a hybrid of remote and in-person experiences, increased reliance on virtual communication and automation, constant disruption, and renewed employer emphasis on workers’ health and well-being. While this new world is complicated and constantly evolving, you won’t have to navigate it alone. For twenty years, Pollak has been following the trends and successfully advising young professionals and organizations on workplace success. Now, she guides you through the changes currently happening—and those to come. Combining insights from both experts and professionals across generations, she provides encouraging, strategic, and actionable advice on making lifelong decisions about education; building a resilient personal brand; using virtual communication to remotely interview, network, and work; skilling and reskilling for the future; and maintaining self-care and mental health. Like your personal GPS, Pollak equips you to handle workplace obstacles, helping you see them as challenges to navigate rather than impossible roadblocks. There is no perfect path to a dream career, but with Recalculating you’ll be prepared with the necessary skills and tools to succeed.

You Are Not Special and Other Encouragements

You Are Not Special and Other Encouragements PDF Author: David McCullough Jr
Publisher: Harper Collins
ISBN: 1460700899
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
An inspirational and timely reflection on the way we bring up children that will resonate with parents everywhere. 'Longtime high school English teacher McCullough scores an A+ with this volume for teens and parents. Rich in literary references and poetic in cadence, the author also offers plenty of hilarious and pointed comments on teens and today's society.' - Publishers Weekly So you think you're special? Well, think again: you're not. David McCullough Jr, a US high-school English teacher, found himself suddenly famous in 2012 when his commencement address to graduating high-school seniors went viral on Youtube. the main theme of that speech, 'You're not special', seemed to hit a nerve and validate a sense among people worldwide that something is deeply and fundamentally wrong with the way children are being raised today. From infancy, he observed, children are taught to believe they are unique and special, deserving of every advantage, destined for success. Consequently they learn to work hard and distinguish themselves for the sake of status and material reward rather than for the benefit of others - the larger community; the world. Success is defined as something almost entirely selfish. there is little attention or time given to the pursuit of education for the sake of wisdom, or even real happiness. Drawing from his long career as an educator and experience as a father of teenage boys, McCullough will expand upon the ideas laid out in his radical twelve-minute speech and argue that we can do better - as parents and as teachers - than fostering in our children a sense of privilege and entitlement.
