Concrete Paving Blocks

Concrete Paving Blocks PDF Author: Michael K. Abate
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Concrete blocks
Languages : en
Pages : 94

Book Description
There is a widespread perception in the U.S. that a concrete block pavement (CBP) is an untried pavement alternative. However, each year more of these pavements are being installed. The available literature concerning this type of pavement is limited in the U.S. as most research papers are published elsewhere. This report examines CBP's from several perspectives in order to provide an overview of this alternative pavement technology. First, the CBP system is described. The importance of using the proper bedding sand gradations is stressed and the phenomenon of lock-up, or interlock, is explained. The various design methods for CBP's are also presented. Here, the concept of equivalency factors is discussed. Next, the structural performance of several CBP projects varying from 1 to 10 years are reviewed. Finally, the range of, CBP costs in the Puget Sound area are provided, and a review of those prices paid by WSDOT for asphaltic concrete and Portland cement concrete is made to determine cost competitiveness with a CBP. Concrete paving blocks, Pavement performance, Pavement design, Pavement costs.

Porous Pavements

Porous Pavements PDF Author: Bruce Ferguson
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1420038435
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 600

Book Description
Pavements are the most ubiquitous of all man-made structures, and they have an enormous impact on environmental quality. They are responsible for hydrocarbon pollutants, excess runoff, groundwater decline and the resulting local water shortages, temperature increases in the urban "heat island," and for the ability of trees to extend their roots in

Development of pavement blocks using waste PET bottles

Development of pavement blocks using waste PET bottles PDF Author: Ike Skie Bee Tuffour
Publisher: GRIN Verlag
ISBN: 3668266581
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 72

Book Description
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Chemistry - Materials Chemistry, , course: Chemistry, language: English, abstract: The use of waste plastics in concrete pavement block is a partial solution to the environmental and ecological challenges associated with the use of plastics. The aim of this research is to reduce environmental pollution by using waste PET bottles to produce pavement blocks. In this study, Voltic bottles were first used to replace cement in the production of pavement blocks. The polymeric material was first shredded and melted in an aluminum container at a temperature range of 250 oC - 260 oC and the quarry dust and sand were added in their respective ratios. In another set of studies, the waste Voltic bottles were used as a partial replacement for quarry dust in the manufacturing of pavement blocks. The cleaned waste plastics bottles were first cut into flakes and then incorporated into the concrete mixture. Test conducted involved the effect of sulphuric acid on the weight of pavement, its water absorption and compressive strength. In the first studies, when PET bottles were used to replace cement, the results obtained had the compressive strength almost the same as that of the control sample which contain no plastic. The percentage water absorbed was less and it also had good resistance for acid. In the second studies when PET was used to replace quarry dust partially, the compressive strength was a little bit lower than the control. Its water absorption was less and it also had good resistance to acid. From the above findings, PET pavement blocks have a good strength and can therefore be used for any construction work.

Structural Design of Interlocking Concrete Block Pavements

Structural Design of Interlocking Concrete Block Pavements PDF Author: Arjun Siva Rathan R.T
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1040147283
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
This book focuses on the structural design of Interlocking Concrete Block Pavement (ICBP) including application, analysis, design, construction, and the fundamental design concept of ICBP backed by case studies to demonstrate long- term performance of ICBP. It helps to draw conclusions regarding the various geometric properties that must be applied to achieve the performance of ICBP. Features: Promotes the use of ICBP in the construction of pavements. Provides a comprehensive overview of concrete block paving. Discusses specifications from codes like ASCE 58- 16, ASTM, BS and IRC codes and datasets online.
