Pages : 140

Book Description
CETTE THESE PRESENTE L'ANALYSE DU COUPLAGE D'UNE ONDE ELECTROMAGNETIQUE AVEC UNE CAVITE PARALLELEPIPEDIQUE PARFAITEMENT CONDUCTRICE POSSEDANT UNE OU PLUSIEURS OUVERTURES DANS SA PAROI. PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT, LE COURANT INDUIT SUR UN CABLE PLACE A L'INTERIEUR DE LA CAVITE, AINSI QUE LA TENSION AUX BORNES D'UNE IMPEDANCE CHARGEANT LE CABLE SONT DETERMINES. LA MODELISATION EST BASEE SUR UNE REPRESENTATION INTEGRALE DES CHAMPS UTILISANT LES FONCTIONS DE GREEN DYADIQUES DE LA CAVITE SANS OUVERTURE. CETTE APPROCHE PERMET DE NE CONSIDERER COMME INCONNU QUE LE COURANT INDUIT SUR LE CABLE, LIMITANT AINSI LE VOLUME DES CALCULS A EFFECTUER. UN AUTRE POINT CLE DE CETTE MODELISATION EST LA DESCRIPTION DE L'OUVERTURE PAR DEUX DIPOLES, L'UN ELECTRIQUE, L'AUTRE MAGNETIQUE. CETTE APPROXIMATION N'EST EN PRINCIPE VALABLE QUE POUR DES OUVERTURES DE DIMENSIONS PETITES DEVANT LA LONGUEUR D'ONDE. LE MODELE DEVELOPPE A PERMIS D'ENTREPRENDRE UNE ANALYSE PARAMETRIQUE DE LA TENSION RECUEILLIE AUX BORNES D'UNE IMPEDANCE CHARGEANT LE CABLE. LES RESULTATS OBTENUS ONT ETE VALIDES EXPERIMENTALEMENT AU CENTRE D'ETUDES DE GRAMAT. L'INFLUENCE DE PLUSIEURS PARAMETRES A ETE MISE EN EVIDENCE: LES DIMENSIONS DE LA CAVITE, LA POSITION ET LA LONGUEUR DU CABLE, LA GEOMETRIE DE L'OUVERTURE. PLUSIEURS FREQUENCES DE RESONANCE ONT ETE IDENTIFIEES ET PEUVENT ETRE PREDETERMINEES. L'ANALYSE ET LA COMPREHENSION PHYSIQUE DU PHENOMENE DE REACTION DU FIL ET DES PAROIS SUR L'OUVERTURE A PERMIS DE DETERMINER LA NECESSITE DE PRENDRE EN COMPTE CETTE REACTION OU LA POSSIBILITE DE LA NEGLIGER SELON LA BANDE DE FREQUENCE D'ETUDE POUR UNE STRUCTURE DONNEE

Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals

Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals PDF Author: Agnes Buka
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1848167997
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 299

Book Description
The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.

Quantum Theory of Finite Systems

Quantum Theory of Finite Systems PDF Author: Jean-Paul Blaizot
Publisher: Mit Press
ISBN: 9780262022149
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 657

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive and pedagogical account of the various methods used in the quantum theory of finite systems, including molecular, atomic, nuclear, and particle phenomena. Covering both background material and advanced topics and including nearly 200 problems, Quantum Theory of Finite Systems has been designed to serve primarily as a text and will also prove useful as a reference in research. The first of the book's four parts introduces the basic mathematical apparatus: second quantization, canonical transformations, Wick theorems and the resulting diagram expansions, and oscillator models. The second part presents mean field approximations and the recently developed path integral methods for the quantization of collective modes. Part three develops perturbation theory in terms of both time-dependent Feynman diagrams and time-independent Goldstone diagrams. A fourth part discusses variational methods based on correlated wavefunctions, including spin correlations. The approximation schemes are formulated for fermions and bosons at eigher zero or non-zero temperature. Although the formalism developed applies to both finite and infinite systems, the book stresses those aspects of the theory that are specific to the description of finite systems. Thus special attention is given to mean field approximations, the ensuing broken symmetries, and the associated collective motions such as rotations. Conversely, some specific features of systems with infinite numbers of degrees of freedom (such as the thermodynamic limit, critical phenomena, and the elimination of ultraviolet divergencies) are deliberately omitted. Jean-Paul Blaizot and Georges Ripka are associated with the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay.

Quaternary Vegetation Dynamics

Quaternary Vegetation Dynamics PDF Author: Jürgen Runge
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000431150
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 412

Book Description
This book celebrates the relaunch of the African Pollen Database, presents state-of-the-art of modern and ancient pollen data from sub-Saharan Africa, and promotes Open Access science. Pollen grains are powerful tools for the study of past vegetation dynamics because they preserve well within sedimentary deposits and have a huge diversity in ornamentation that allows different taxa to be determined. The reconstruction of past vegetation from the examination of ancient pollen records thus can be used to characterize the nature of past landscapes (e.g. abundance of forests vs. grasslands), provide insights into changes in biodiversity, and gain empirical evidence of vegetation response to climatic change and human activity. In this, the 35th Volume of "Palaeoecology of Africa", we bring together new data and extensive synthetic reviews to provide novel insights into the relationships between human evolution, human activity, climate change and vegetation dynamics during the Quaternary, the last 2.6 million years. Current and ongoing climate and land-use change is exerting pressure on modern vegetation formations and threatening the livelihoods and wellbeing of many peoples in Africa. In this book the focus is on the Quaternary because it is during this geological period that the modern vegetation formations developed into their current configurations against a backdrop of high magnitude global climate change (glacial-interglacial cycles), human evolution, and a growing human land-use footprint. In this book the latest information is presented and collated from around the African continent to parameterize past vegetation states, identify the drivers of vegetation change, and assess the vegetation resilience to change. To achieve this research from two broad themes are covered: (i) the present is the key to the past (i.e. studies which improve our understanding of modern environments so that we can better interpret evidence from the past), and (ii) the past is the key to the future (i.e. studies which unlock information on how and why vegetation changed in the past so one can better anticipate trajectories of future change). This Open Access book will provide a strong foundation for future research exploring past ecological, environmental and climatic change within Africa and the surrounding islands. The book is organized regionally (covering western, eastern, central, and southern Africa) and it contains specialized articles focused on particular topics (such as modern pollen-vegetation relationships and fire as a driver of vegetation change), as well as regional and pan-African syntheses drawing together decades of research to assess key scientific questions (including the role of climate in driving vegetation change and the role of vegetation change in human evolution). These articles will be useful to students and teachers from high school to the highest level of university who are interested in the origins and dynamics of vegetation in Africa. Furthermore, it is also meant to provide societally relevant information that can act as an inspiration for the development of sustainable management practices for the future.
