Predictions in Ungauged Basins

Predictions in Ungauged Basins PDF Author: Stewart W. Franks
Publisher: International Assn of Hydrological Sciences
ISBN: 9781901502381
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 348

Book Description
Hydrological prediction where data are available is relatively easily achieved, albeit subject to uncertainty that is often unquantified. But, ungauged catchments (by far the majority) present major difficulties for hydrological prediction, hence the IAHS Predictions in Ungauged Basins (PUB) initiative. This volume combines chapters presenting innovative theoretical and practical possibilities of different approaches for prediction, with contributions describing the differing perspectives and specific needs of Australia and Japan in particular.

Gravity, Geoid and Height Systems

Gravity, Geoid and Height Systems PDF Author: Urs Marti
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319108379
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 330

Book Description
This volume includes a selection of papers presented at the IAG international symposium "Gravity, Geoid and Height Systems 2012" (GGHS2012), which was organized by IAG Commission 2 “Gravity Field” with the assistance of the International Gravity Field Service (IGFS) and GGOS Theme 1 “Unified Global Height System”. The book summarizes the latest results on gravimetry and gravity networks, global gravity field modeling and applications, future gravity field missions. It provides a detailed compilation on advances in precise local and regional high-resolution geoid modeling, the establishment and unification of vertical reference systems, contributions to gravity field and mass transport modeling as well as articles on the gravity field of planetary bodies.

Water and Land Security in Drylands

Water and Land Security in Drylands PDF Author: Mohamed Ouessar
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319540211
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 352

Book Description
This book presents recent lessons learned in the context of research and development for various dryland ecosystems, focusing on water resources management, land and vegetation cover degradation and remediation, and socioeconomic aspects, as well as integrated approaches to ensuring water and land security in view of the current and predicted climate change. As water and land are the essential bases of food production, the management of these natural resources is becoming a cornerstone for the development of dryland populations. The book gathers the peer-reviewed, revised versions of the most outstanding papers on these topics presented at the ILDAC2015 Conference in Djerba, Tunisia.

Support of Underground Excavations in Hard Rock

Support of Underground Excavations in Hard Rock PDF Author: E. Hoek
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9789054101864
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
The safe and economical construction of tunnels, mines, and other subterranean works depends on the correct choice of support systems to ensure that the excavations are stable. These support systems should be matched to the characterstics of the rock mass and the excavation techniques adopted. Establishing the support requirements, designing support systems and installing these correctly are essential elements in safe underground construction. This is a comprehensive and practical work which also gives access to user-friendly computer programmes which enable the investigation and design of support techniques. Details on how to obtain this software are also included in the book.
