Comunicación y medio ambiente, el pacto imposible

Comunicación y medio ambiente, el pacto imposible PDF Author: Thierry Libaert
Publisher: Editorial UOC
ISBN: 8490292280
Category : Social Science
Languages : es
Pages : 153

Book Description

Environmental Communication and the Public Sphere

Environmental Communication and the Public Sphere PDF Author: Phaedra C. Pezzullo
Publisher: SAGE Publications
ISBN: 150636358X
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 385

Book Description
"This is the best undergraduate text devoted to environmental communication. It’s the standard book for an introduction to the field." —Jeffrey L. Courtright, Illinois State University The Fifth Edition of the award-winning Environmental Communication and the Public Sphere remains the most comprehensive introductory text in the growing field of environmental communication. This groundbreaking book focuses on the role that human communication plays in influencing the ways we perceive the environment. It also examines how we define what constitutes an environmental problem and how we decide what actions to take concerning the natural world. In the highly anticipated Fifth Edition, internationally recognized researcher Phaedra Pezzullo and three-time Sierra Club President Robert Cox leverage their vast experience to offer insights into the news media, Congress, environmental conflict, advocacy campaigns, and other real-world applications of environmental communication. This edition also explores recent events—the Trump Administration, wolf conservation, public land milestones, the Flint water crisis, corporate disinformation campaigns, new alliances for a "just transition" in a growing renewable energy economy, the People’s Climate March, international legal precedents, and more—to illustrate key terms and the significance of environmental communication.

Environmental Communication and Community

Environmental Communication and Community PDF Author: Tarla Rai Peterson
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 131742932X
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
As society has become increasingly aware of environmental issues, the challenge of structuring public participation opportunities that strengthen democracy, while promoting more sustainable communities has become crucial for many natural resource agencies, industries, interest groups and publics. The processes of negotiating between the often disparate values held by these diverse groups, and formulating and implementing policies that enable people to fulfil goals associated with these values, can strengthen communities as well as tear them apart. This book provides a critical examination of the role communication plays in social transition, through both construction and destruction of community. The authors examine the processes and practices put in play when people who may or may not have previously seen themselves as interconnected, communicate with each other, often in situations where they are competing for the same resources. Drawing upon a diverse selection of case-studies on the American, Asian and European continents, the chapters chart a range of approaches to environmental communication, including symbolic construction, modes of organising and agonistic politics of communication. This volume will be of great interest to researchers, teachers, and practitioners of environmental communication, environmental conflict, community development and natural resource management.

Communication and Environment: Sustainability and Risks (Penerbit USM)

Communication and Environment: Sustainability and Risks (Penerbit USM) PDF Author: Hamidah Abd. Hamid
Publisher: Penerbit USM
ISBN: 9838617466
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 347

Book Description
There is a dearth of literature on environmental communication within the non-western world. The few existing ones are scattered and not easily available. Thus, there is a dire need to document research and literature in the field. The opportunity arose at the 2009 International Conference on Communication and Environment held in Penang, Malaysia. The international conference with the theme “Transformation for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, organised by the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), attracted scholars, practitioners and activists from around the world to listen and deliberate on various aspects of communication and environment. The post-conference review resulted in the selection of 24 papers to be compiled into this edited volume. The escalating degradation of environment locally and globally was the main concern that prompted discussions on how sustainability can be advocated. The development process in many countries, economic activities and political decisions on issues such as deforestation for timber logging, rapid urbanisation, pertinently points out that environmental degradation and any communication on environmental change has to be grounded and located within the wider context of social, politics and economics of the society. Communication and environmental communication for that matter have also to be understood within these wider contexts. Many would agree that a constant and consistent flow of information communicated through different channels to different stakeholders at the right time and destinations can help raise awareness and consciousness of environmental problems, protection and preservation. This vital information can enable the public and stakeholders to make informed choices, and take actions whenever possible. A lack of communication and information will inordinately exacerbate the situation of environmental degradation. This book thus highlights how the environment is being treated in the media, communicated to the society and impacted nations. The chapters are grouped into the following sections: Theoretical and conceptual issues; Media content and the environment; Politics, communication and the environment; Corporate social and environmental responsibility; and Citizen participation, human rights and the environment. The editors acknowledge the excellent contributions of all the authors and are indebted to the members of the review panel, the external reviewer, USM Publications Committee and staff of Universiti Sains Malaysia Press for their help in ensuring the quality of this volume. Most importantly, we express our gratitude to USM for providing the financial support for the international conference and making it possible to publish this book.
