Energetic Materials

Energetic Materials PDF Author:
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080530907
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 487

Book Description
This volume provides an overview of current research and recent advances in the area of energetic materials, focusing on decomposition, crystal and molecular properties. The contents and format reflect the fact that theory, experiment and computation are closely linked in this field. Since chemical decomposition is of fundamental importance in energetic performance, this volume begins with a survey of the decomposition processes of a variety of energetic compounds. This is followed by detailed studies of certain compounds and specific mechanisms, such as nitro/aci-nitro tautomerism. Chapter 6 covers the transition from decomposition to crystal properties, with molecular dynamics being the primary analytical tool. The next several chapters deal with different aspects of the crystalline state, again moving from the general to particular. There is also a discussion of methods for computing gas, liquid and solid phase heats of formation. Finally, the last portion of this volume looks at the potential of high-nitrogen molecules as energetic systems; this has been of considerable interest in recent years.Overall, this volume illustrates the progress that has been made in the field of energetic materials and some of the areas of current activity. It also indicates the challenges involved in characterizing and understanding the properties and behaviour of these compounds. The work is a unique state-of-the-art treatment of the subject, written by pre-eminent researchers in the field.- Overall emphasis is on theory and computation, presented in the context of relevant experimental work- Presents a unique state-of-the-art treatment of the subject- Contributors are preeminent researchers in the field

Orientations and Rotations

Orientations and Rotations PDF Author: Adam Morawiec
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662091569
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 203

Book Description
Essentially, Orientations and Rotations treats the mathematical and computational foundations of texture analysis. It contains an extensive and thorough introduction to parameterizations and geometry of the rotation space. Since the notions of orientations and rotations are of primary importance for science and engineering, the book can be useful for a very broad audience using rotations in other fields.

Lecture Notes on Computational Structural Biology

Lecture Notes on Computational Structural Biology PDF Author: Zhijun Wu
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812705899
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 243

Book Description
While the field of computational structural biology or structural bioinformatics is rapidly developing, there are few books with a relatively complete coverage of such diverse research subjects studied in the field as X-ray crystallography computing, NMR structure determination, potential energy minimization, dynamics simulation, and knowledge-based modeling. This book helps fill the gap by providing such a survey on all the related subjects. Comprising a collection of lecture notes for a computational structural biology course for the Program on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Iowa State University, the book is in essence a comprehensive summary of computational structural biology based on the author's own extensive research experience, and a review of the subject from the perspective of a computer scientist or applied mathematician. Readers will gain a deeper appreciation of the biological importance and mathematical novelty of the research in the field.

Structure Determination by X-ray Crystallography

Structure Determination by X-ray Crystallography PDF Author: Mark Ladd
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 146143954X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 784

Book Description
The advances in and applications of x-ray and neutron crystallography form the essence of this new edition of this classic textbook, while maintaining the overall plan of the book that has been well received in the academic community since the first edition in 1977. X-ray crystallography is a universal tool for studying molecular structure, and the complementary nature of neutron diffraction crystallography permits the location of atomic species in crystals which are not easily revealed by X-ray techniques alone, such as hydrogen atoms or other light atoms in the presence of heavier atoms. Thus, a chapter discussing the practice of neutron diffraction techniques, with examples, broadens the scope of the text in a highly desirable way. As with previous editions, the book contains problems to illustrate the work of each chapter, and detailed solutions are provided. Mathematical procedures related to the material of the main body of the book are not discussed in detail, but are quoted where needed with references to standard mathematical texts. To address the computational aspect of crystallography, the suite of computer programs from the fourth edition has been revised and expanded. The programs enable the reader to participate fully in many of the aspects of x-ray crystallography discussed in the book. In particular, the program system XRAY* is interactive, and enables the reader to follow through, at the monitor screen, the computational techniques involved in single-crystal structure determination, albeit in two dimensions, with the data sets provided. Exercises for students can be found in the book, and solutions are available to instructors.

High-Pressure Crystallography

High-Pressure Crystallography PDF Author: Andrzej Katrusiak
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 140202102X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 574

Book Description
Despite the tremendous advances in the techniques and equipment for carrying out high-pressure crystallography, the application or exploration of the high-pressure variable in detailed structural studies remains rare. The chapters in this book provide a set of lecture notes and supplementary material for a course on high pressure crystallography. The material comprises state-of-the-art reviews of high-pressure experiments using X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques at synchrotron and neutron facilities and in the laboratory, as well as complementary experimental high-pressure techniques and theoretical methods for investigating matter at elevated pressures. The materials studies range from elemental solids and liquids to inorganic compounds, minerals, organic compounds, clathrates and pharmaceutical compounds, to large biological molecules such as proteins and viruses. The book provides a reference for workers in high-pressure science wishing to learn more about crystallography and for established crystallographers potentially interested in high pressure as a variable, as well as an introductory guide to new researchers in the field.
