Book Description
Ours is a world that is constituted and reinvented through the personal and shared stories we tell. In the spirit and understanding that each and every one of us, however big or small, has a story to tell, I am pleased to share with you this modest account of myself, who rose from very humble beginnings into community stewardship. It is only one story from one vantage point, which I hope will contribute to the dynamism and quest for recreation in eternity that makes our world what it is: a melting pot of experiences. My idea is to expose and share my personal experience with others and hopefully, leave them with a thing or two to take along in their own life journeys. This approach is a school from where people's minds are tickled with new ideas and sooner or later, develop their intellectual and human capacities as caring and sharing beings. Through the story of my life, I want to create an awareness for people to stay focused on some basic principles or virtues of life such as belief and faith in the forces, big and small, that shape our affairs in ways we can only marvel at. The story is also an invitation to cherish virtues such as hard work, honesty, empathy, justice, love and respect, trust, confidence, transparency and accountability. These virtues are indispensable for in our quest and commitment to peaceful coexistence and to unity in our creative diversity as humans of various races and cultures. Let us accept and emulate shining examples. Let's reject all forms of animosity, hatred, jealousy, greed, blackmail, corruption, embezzlement, but bow down in reverence to all that is noble, good and accepted by all and sundry. This, in essence, if my modest message in Community Stewardship.

The Stewardship of Higher Education

The Stewardship of Higher Education PDF Author: David M. Callejo Perez
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9462093687
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 221

Book Description
Understanding the entrepreneurial nature of universities—in particular, the relationship between education and health in relation to development and wellness of communities—this volume provides a description/narration of the efforts in how universities can address their shifting contexts while engaging their communities in social change. In the development of this book, we have explored how reforms in American higher education are impacting the role of universities and their faculty. Contributors were asked to imagine possibilities for research and outreach by providing salient examples of how higher education can lead and change how we view the role of health and education within institutions and society. Each author writes across common themes that address the problems and possibilities of higher education curriculum and projects aligned with the mission of stewardship. The authors highlight interdisciplinary approaches and projects for faculty work, modification of the Teaching-Research-Service expectations, and community initiatives that can emerge from real-life problems (to impact wellbeing) and create rich and deep research possibilities for practitioners to impact both higher education and society. The process and research approaches used by the authors include imagining the community as part of a process of the change and part of what changes, exploring how community change can build on the strengths of local people, and why community organization and advocacy should revolve around social learning and community capacity theories. Given the diversity of topics and approaches, as editors we have tried to honour both the authors’ words and style in expressing their opinions to provide a forum for the readers to envision stewardship.

Trauma Stewardship

Trauma Stewardship PDF Author: Laura van Dernoot Lipsky
Publisher: Berrett-Koehler Publishers
ISBN: 1605095389
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 370

Book Description
This beloved bestseller—over 180,000 copies sold—has helped caregivers worldwide keep themselves emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and physically healthy in the face of the sometimes overwhelming traumas they confront every day. A longtime trauma worker, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky offers a deep and empathetic survey of the often-unrecognized toll taken on those working to make the world a better place. We may feel tired, cynical, or numb or like we can never do enough. These, and other symptoms, affect us individually and collectively, sapping the energy and effectiveness we so desperately need if we are to benefit humankind, other living things, and the planet itself. In Trauma Stewardship, we are called to meet these challenges in an intentional way. Lipsky offers a variety of simple and profound practices, drawn from modern psychology and a range of spiritual traditions, that enable us to look carefully at our reactions and motivations and discover new sources of energy and renewal. She includes interviews with successful trauma stewards from different walks of life and even uses New Yorker cartoons to illustrate her points. “We can do meaningful work in a way that works for us and for those we serve,” Lipsky writes. “Taking care of ourselves while taking care of others allows us to contribute to our societies with such impact that we will leave a legacy informed by our deepest wisdom and greatest gifts instead of burdened by our struggles and despair.”

A Generous Community

A Generous Community PDF Author: C. Andrew Doyle
Publisher: Church Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 0819232319
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 193

Book Description
Practical ideas for connecting and building communities of service. Bishop Andy Doyle understands that the church must change. Every day, he presides over parishes that are no longer vital, that have not adapted to the “VUCA” (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world of today — the world in which the church exists. The church still looks to hierarchies when it needs to build networks, and stays mired in arguments when it needs to find unity. With the experience of a bishop and the insight of a deep learner, Doyle points the way to the future with a vision for how we can learn, serve, and communicate with each other.
