Commodity Flow Feasibility Study

Book Description
This report presents the recommendations and findings from a study of the feasibility of establishing a program for collecting and reporting commodity flow information for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT). Historically, the MDT has had a strong interest in ensuring that there is a good data base from which to determine Montana freight transportation needs. This has resulted in the collection and reporting of freight related information as part of statewide planning, rail planning, special studies, and in an ongoing traffic monitoring program by MDT. MDT managers and a sample of freight transportation providers were interviewed to identify MDT commodity flow data requirements. The focus of the study is on commodity flow information and not freight or goods movement information. The interview results provide perspective on data requirements at each level of the organization. The interview findings, and the evaluation of MDT ongoing goods movement related planning, indicate that MDT commodity flow data requirements are largely met, and that the principal unmet requirements are for a better baseline of information on current and future goods movement. It is not recommended that MDT proceed with conducting a commodity flow data collection and study, as the information collected would have only a narrow use in the department.

Feasibility of Two Commodity Network Flows

Feasibility of Two Commodity Network Flows PDF Author: Irtiz̤á Karīm
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Economics, Mathematical
Languages : en
Pages : 14

Book Description
The paper considers the problem of feasibility of integer flows in a two commodity network with integral capacities. The main result of the paper is conditions under which, for two nonnegative integers a and b, there exists a two commodity flow, where the flow of the first commodity is of size a and the second flow of size b. If such numbers are realizable as flow values, then an algorithm is indicated for finding the actual paths in the network. (Author).

Guidebook for Developing Subnational Commodity Flow Data

Guidebook for Developing Subnational Commodity Flow Data PDF Author:
Publisher: Transportation Research Board
ISBN: 0309283531
Category : Freight and freightage
Languages : en
Pages : 165

Book Description
"TRB's National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP) Report 26: Guidebook for Developing Subnational Commodity Flow Data explores how state departments of transportation and other subnational agencies can obtain and compile commodity flow data. The Guidebook contains descriptions of existing public and private commodity flow data; standard procedures for compiling local, regional, state, and corridor databases from these commodity flow data sources; procedures and methodologies for conducting subnational commodity flow surveys and studies; and methods for using commodity flow data in local, regional, state, and corridor practice. In addition to the Guidebook, two subtask reports from NCFRP Project 20--Review of Subnational Commodity Flow Data Development Efforts and National Freight-Related Data Sets and Demonstration of Application of Establishment Survey--are available only in electronic format."--Publisher's description.

The Co-evolution of Commodity Flows, Economic Geography, and Emissions

The Co-evolution of Commodity Flows, Economic Geography, and Emissions PDF Author: Kieran Donaghy
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030785556
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 180

Book Description
This book presents extensions to current commodity-flow models to analyze the economic and environmental impacts of recent structural changes, such as fragmentation of production and lengthening supply chains. The extensions enable augmented commodity-flow models to analyze the vulnerability of supply chains and regions to climate change and extreme weather events. The models allow the explicit treatment of trade in intermediate goods; the so-called “new economic geography” behavioral foundations for production and inter-industry and interregional trade; endogenous determination of capital investment and employment; and changes in emissions associated with production, consumption and freight movement. Presenting a modeling framework and simulations that are based on a thirty-year, spatial time-series of inter-industry and interstate trade in the US, this unique book is a valuable resource for regional scientists, economic geographers and transportation modelers, as well as environmental and atmospheric scientists.
