Book Description
Excerpt from Report on Inspection and Analysis of Commercial Fertilizers, 1949 The fertilizer law Of 1882 was the first Connecticut law to require the registration Of all commercial fertilizers and the payment Of an analysis fee Of ten. Dollars for each Of the fertilizing ingredients contained or claimed to exist in said fertilizer. It is interesting to note that the word ing Of this Old law did not restrict the ingredients on which fees were paid to nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash as did the law Of 1919 that eventu ally succeeded it. It is true that in the administration of the 1882 law analysis fees were exacted for guarantees Of nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash only, but this was done on the stated assumption that only these elements were those whose determination in an analysis is necessary for an evaluation. Book Description
Excerpt from Commercial Fertilizers: Report for 1950 The amended law requires that all guarantees of fertilizer ingredients other than phosphoric acid and potash must be expressed as the elemental form; for instance, magnesium and boron must be guaranteed as per centages 'of magnesium and boron, not magnesium oxide and borax. The law also specifies that guarantees of other ingredients than ni trogen, phosphoric acid and potash may be made only by permission of the 1 director of The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, but it will be the policy of this Station to consider the filing of an application for registration as a request for such permission, and per mission will normally be withheld only in the case of' a fertilizer con taining such a quantity of an added secondary fertilizer component as would appear to make the fertilizer likely to be harmful to the crops for which it is designed.
