Book Description
ADP 6-22 describes enduring concepts of leadership through the core competencies and attributes required of leaders of all cohorts and all organizations, regardless of mission or setting. These principles reflect decades of experience and validated scientific knowledge. An ideal Army leader serves as a role model through strong intellect, physical presence, professional competence, and moral character. An Army leader is able and willing to act decisively, within superior leaders' intent and purpose, and in the organization's best interests. Army leaders recognize that organizations, built on mutual trust and confidence, accomplish missions. Every member of the Army, military or civilian, is part of a team and functions in the role of leader and subordinate. Being a good subordinate is part of being an effective leader. Leaders do not just lead subordinates-they also lead other leaders. Leaders are not limited to just those designated by position, rank, or authority.

Book Description
Volume 2, Bringing Order to Chaos: Combined Arms Maneuver in Large Scale Combat Operations, opens a dialogue with the Army. Are we ready for the significantly increased casualties inherent to intensive combat between large formations, the constant paralyzing stress of continual contact with a peer enemy, and the difficult nature of command and control while attempting division and corps combined arms maneuver to destroy that enemy? The chapters in this volume answer these questions for combat operations while spanning military history from 1917 through 2003. These accounts tell the challenges of intense combat, the drain of heavy casualties, the difficulty of commanding and controlling huge formations in contact, the effective use of direct and indirect fires, the need for high quality leadership, thoughtful application of sound doctrine, and logistical sustainment up to the task. No large scale combat engagement, battle, or campaign of the last one hundred years has been successful without being better than the enemy in these critical capabilities. What can we learn from the past to help us make the transition to ready to fight tonight?

Combined Arms Warfare in the Twentieth Century

Combined Arms Warfare in the Twentieth Century PDF Author: Jonathan Mallory House
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
The original version of this text was published in 1984 as a textbook on military history for officers in the U.S. Army. The revised version includes an appendix of terms and acronyms, and concepts are explained in nontechnical terms, making it more comprehensible to the general reader. Also incorporated is a description of combined arms warfare from the late-1970s to the end of the 20th century, which takes into account developments that were not obvious in 1984. The main topics are how the major armies of the world fight on the battlefield; what concepts, weapons, and organizations have developed for this purpose; and how the different armies have influenced each other in these developments. House is a former military officer and analyst for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. c. Book News Inc.

Army Doctrine Publication ADP 6-22 Army Leadership August 2012

Army Doctrine Publication ADP 6-22 Army Leadership August 2012 PDF Author: United States Army
Publisher: Createspace Independent Pub
ISBN: 9781479121984
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 24

Book Description
Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 6-22, Army Leadership, establishes the Army leadership principles that apply to officers, noncommissioned officers and enlisted Soldiers as well as Army Civilians. The principal audience for ADP 6-22 is all leaders, military and civilian. Commanders and staffs of Army headquarters serving as joint task force or multinational headquarters should also refer to applicable joint or multinational doctrine concerning the range of military operations and joint or multinational forces. Trainers and educators throughout the Army will also use this manual. Commanders, staffs, and subordinates ensure their decisions and actions comply with applicable United States, international, and, in some cases, host-nation laws and regulations. Commanders at all levels ensure their Soldiers operate in accordance with the law of war and the rules of engagement. (See Field Manual [FM] 27-10.) ADP 6-22 uses joint terms where applicable. Selected joint and Army terms and definitions appear in both the glossary and text. Terms for which ADP 6-22 is the proponent publication have an asterisk in the glossary. Definitions for which ADP 6-22 is the proponent publication are in boldfaced text. For other definitions in the text, the term is italicized and the proponent manual number follows the definition. The use of the term influence throughout this publication reflects the definition of common English usage "the act or power of producing an effect without apparent exertion of force or direct exercise of command," as distinct from the usage outlined in FM 3-13. It is contrary to law for DOD to undertake operations intended to influence a domestic audience; nothing in this publication recommends activities in contravention of this law. ADP 6-22 applies to the Active Army, Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, United States Army Reserve, and Army Civilian workforce unless otherwise stated. Readers should refer to Army Doctrine Reference Publication (ADRP) 6-22, Army Leadership, for detailed explanations of the Army leadership principles.

To Be a Soldier

To Be a Soldier PDF Author: Department of the Army
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1510728473
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 450

Book Description
To Be a Soldier offers the US Army’s two capstone doctrinal manuals in one place for the first time. This guide begins with the Army’s introductory text, FM-1 The Army, which explains the Army’s origin and purpose, its mission and values, how it functions as a portion of a joint military force in combat, and the importance of the individual soldier in a larger fighting force. When readers have learned the fundamentals of the Army, FM-3 Operations provides foundational knowledge of the full spectrum of Army operations. This manual is the Army’s principal tool for the instruction of today’s soldiers in the art and science of warfare, and has been recently updated to discuss counter-insurgency and hybrid threats in addition to conventional land operations. To Be a Soldier is the reader’s guide to the Army’s most fundamental knowledge by offering its two capstone texts in one place. The information in this handbook forms the basis for all the knowledge conveyed in any subsequent Army field manuals, making it required reading for all soldiers and readers with interest in US Army training and operations.
