Book Description
Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS) is a recently developed method that shows great promise for extending and complementing the applicability of standard Raman spectroscopic techniques. An apparatus to observe the nonlinear generation of coherent anti-Stokes Raman beams was constructed. Three different types of nitrogen lasers were built and each was critically evaluated. One type, which provided the highest power, was used to simultaneously pump two tunable dye lasers. The backgrounds and design features of each of the laser types are discussed. When two dye laser beams were crossed and focused in a Raman active material, the sample emitted higher frequency anti-Stokes radiation. Due to system limitations, this radiation was diffuse rather than a collimated beam. The theory of Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS) is also discussed.

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences PDF Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475757824
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for lnformation and Numerica/ Data Analysis and Synthesis (C/NDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficia! to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After fi ve years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of ali concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and App/ied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. Ali back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 21 (thesis year 1976) a total of 10,586 theses titles from 25 Canadian and 219 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work.

Ultranarrowband Tunable Dye Laser for New Approaches to Atomic Spectroscopy PDF Author: Stanford University. Ginzton Laboratory

Pages : 86

Book Description
This report summarizes recent progress in the development and improvement of tunable laser systems for novel approaches to atomic and molecular spectroscopy, and in particular for new precision studies of atomic hydrogen. It reports on: (a) The development of a highly monochromatic, powerful tunable dye laser system, combining a single-frequency cw dye laser oscillator with a multistage pulsed dye laser amplifier. (b) The generation of cw single-frequency coherent radiation near 243 angstrom by summing the frequencies of a Kr ion laser and a cw dye laser in cooled ADP. In addition, the report summarizes three experiment, exploring new coherent light techniques for sensitive high resolution spectroscopy of atoms and molecules. These are (c) The first demonstration of Doppler-free laser polarization spectroscopy, a new technique, which can greatly exceed the sensitivity of saturated absorption spectroscopy. The Stark splitting of the hydrogen Balmer beta line in a glow discharge has been resolved. (d) A demonstration of polarization labeling of molecular sodium This new technique simplifies the unraveling of complex absorption spectra by identifying lines with a common lower state. (e) High resolution two-photon spectroscopy of the excited state of normal and deuterated benzene. The observed rotational contours have been reported by computer fits, yielding accurate molecular constants.

Organic Semiconductor Lasers and Tailored Nanostructures for Raman Spectroscopy

Organic Semiconductor Lasers and Tailored Nanostructures for Raman Spectroscopy PDF Author: Liu, Xin
Publisher: KIT Scientific Publishing
ISBN: 3731503700
Category : Technology (General)
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
This work presents the application of organic semiconductor distributed feedback laser as free-space excitation source in Raman spectroscopy. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering effect is exploited to improve the detection sensitivity. The SERS conditionis achiedved by using substrates consisting of gold-coated polymeric nanopillar arrays. The organic-laser-excited SERS measurements are applied to verify the concentration variation of biomolecule adenosine in aqueous solutions.
