The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries, monitors annual escapements of salmon Oncorhynchus sp. returning to the Coghill River. A resistance board weir is used to enumerate sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka passing into Coghill Lake. Counts of sockeye salmon passing the weir are used for inseason management of commercial gillnet and purse seine fisheries in the Coghill, Eshamy, and Southwestern Districts. This report provides operational guidelines for the Coghill River Weir.
