Chiefly letters between Harry Clarke and Lulu Montrose of San Francisco, during their engagement in and immediately after their marriage in 1896. The letters arrange for meeting times and places, discuss their feelings for each other, their visits, and their plans. Most letters are written in San Francisco, with a few from Lulu written while she was on trips to Napa and Niles Canyon. Inclludes letters to Harry and Lulu from Lulu's father, F.N. Montrose, giving them permission to marry. Later letters, dated intermittently from 1897-1914, include one each from Lulu's father and brother, Leo D. Montrose, offering condolences for the death of their baby daughter in 1897; a miscellaneous note from Leo dated Aug. 11, 1898 to a Miss Paddon; a letter to Harry from Lulu dated June 1900, written while on a trip to Camp Taylor, Calif.; a letter to Lulu from Leo dated Apr.-May 1902; a Christmas note from Harry and Lulu's daughter Mildred dated Dec. 10, 1912; and a few letters of correspondence between Harry and Lulu's son, Lionel, while he was a student at St. Joseph's Academy in Berkeley, Calif. in 1914. Also includes a ticket for the Market St. Railway Co. Valencia St. streetcar, for July 1, 1902.

The folder contains two letters, one written by Jonas Clark (1774-1854) to his wife and the other by an unidentified Clark family member, probably one of Jonas' sisters. The first letter, dated October 15, 1815, discusses Jonas Galusha's win over Martin Chittenden in the 1815 gubernatorial election, and the arrival of General Brown and Jonas Galusha in Montpelier, Vermont. The second letter, dated September 20, 1813, written from Preston, Connecticut, and addressed to Jonas Clark, contains information about an epidemic in the area and refers to the death of Theophilus Clark, Jonas' brother.
