Book Description
Excerpt from Civil Government in the Philippines The importance of giving instruction in the public schools, upon the subject of civil government, can hardly be overestimated. Every child before he leaves the public school should be taught the general plan of the government under which he lives. This knowledge not only creates in his mind a loyalty to his government, but enables him more perfectly to comply with the duties of citizenship. I have read the manuscript of "Civil Government in the Philippines," by Dudley O. McGovncy, with some degree of care and have found it to contain a true statement of the form and workings of the civil government in the Philippines. The statements of facts, and the illustrations given, are so plain and simple that every child of proper school age for the study of this subject can easily understand them. What Has Been Done in the Philippines

What Has Been Done in the Philippines PDF Author: UNKNOWN. AUTHOR

Book Description
Excerpt from What Has Been Done in the Philippines: A Record of Practical Accomplishments Under Civil Government Sir: Permit me to bring to your attention the accompanying compilation, prepared in the Bureau of Insular Affairs, setting forth in succinct form and style a comprehensive review of what has been accomplished in the administration of practical affairs by the civil government of the Philippine Islands, and to suggest that it be printed as a public document. Sir: The Bureau of Insular Affairs is daily receiving letters of inquiry presenting variants of the question: "What has been done in the Philippines?" Numerous inquiries as to how much it costs the United States to maintain the government of the Philippine Islands show that the general public are not aware of the fact that the civil government of the islands is maintained by its own revenues and without a dollar from the Treasury of the United States; inquiries also indicate a lack of knowledge of the fact that an overwhelming number of official positions in the islands are occupied by Filipino.s and that the native inhabitants participate in the exercise of the powers of all branches of government. These letters suggested the advisability of a compilation which would present the desired information in form and space adapted to the use of persons interested in the general subject or some special matter, who lacked time or opportunity to examine all the documents involved. The Odyssey of the Philippine Commission (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Daniel R. Williams
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780364068380
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 434

Book Description
Excerpt from The Odyssey of the Philippine Commission Commission to Manila, and the fragmentary account of its early work in the islands, are taken almost literally from letters written home at the time. For this reason some of the conclusions reached are doubtless subject to correction when judged by events. It is hoped, however, that this fault will be more than offset by the fact that such letters seek to portray a situation in the making, with something of the spontaneity which ever comes from a passing judgment. That the letters are now presented in this form is due largely to the partial criticism of friends, who profess to see in them something of interest and information to the general public. If further excuse be necessary, it is found in the circumstance that no book has yet appeared describing the establishment of civil government in the Philippines, nor conveying an adequate idea of the difficulties encountered and overcome by the Commission in its work. Our country was fortunate in having such statesman like men sent to meet and solve such big problems, and any contribution which will help our people to further realize and appreciate this fact, and at the same time deepen their interest in the welfare of our Filipino wards, cannot come amiss. Book Description
Excerpt from Philippine Government An effort has been made to employ a vocabulary that is within the grasp of the Filipino youth. In some cases it has been necessary to use large or un familiar words in order to convey the exact meaning intended and to avoid the use of long and involved sentences. Such words have been used in construe tions that define them, formal definitions being avoided. A necessary large word can be understood much more readily than a roundabout sentence.
