Fula spoken in the City of Maroua (Northern Cameroon)

Fula spoken in the City of Maroua (Northern Cameroon) PDF Author: Jean Pierre Boutché
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster

Book Description
Zusammenfassung This book investigates the speech of non-ethnic Fulfulde speakers in Maroua, Northern Cameroon, focussed on the Christian community, where the language is adopted as evangelistic instrument beside French. Three key reasons motivate our investigation. First: Context - Fulfulde is embedded in a multilingual contact situation with Indo-European languages (French, English) and many other local languages belonging to Afro-Asiatic, Nilo-Saharan and Niger-Congo phyla. Second: Fulfulde as lingua franca in the region. This status is unique compared to the situation in other countries such as Senegal, Chad or Sudan where it is mainly an intraethnic medium of communication. Third: In contrast to the common perception of Fulfulde as the language of a Muslim community - here we are targeting the Christian Fulfulde speakers who share the language as well as the Bible (translated into Fulfulde) as common goods for interethnic communication in their religious activities.

"Les Mbengis" - Migration, Gender, and Family

Author: Atekmangoh, Christina
Publisher: Langaa RPCIG
ISBN: 9956762938
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 441

Book Description
This book is about transnational migration (familiarly called “bushfalling”) and remittance flows to Cameroon. With the current dire economic state, Cameroonians increasingly aspire to go abroad to make a living. Migrants achieve this through a collective (family) strategy and with the help of migration brokers. Relations between migrants and the family that stays in Cameroon can be characterized as follows: Families raise and educate their children to become adults. In return to giving their children the “gift of life”, families expect reciprocity, best secured through economic success abroad and the sending of remittances by migrants. As families in Cameroon heavily contribute to the funding of migration trajectories, often by selling properties such as land or houses or borrowing money, they also expect a return on their investments. All that constitutes this study explores under the notion of the moral economy of transnational remittances. In this study, remittances are understood to be a composite of financial, material, and cultural flows—maintaining and transforming social and kinship ties. The book proposes also a large exploration of themes in relation to transnational migration: why and how Cameroonians migrate (the role of the operational family in terms of decision and funding; the role of migration brokers through the identification of “lines” and the provision of the necessary papers); the moral justification for migration; the ways social relations and customs are changed by status gained through migration; the ways people explain the failure of migration projects, the difficulties to stay abroad; the matrimonial strategies to go and stay abroad. This is an empirically rich and theoretically sophisticated study that takes thinking on transnational migration informed by African strategies and experiences a step further.

Study of Clay Materials from Northern Cameroon: Application in the Habitat of Sahelian Areas

Study of Clay Materials from Northern Cameroon: Application in the Habitat of Sahelian Areas PDF Author: Touogam Touolak Benedicte
Publisher: Scientific Research Publishing, Inc. USA
ISBN: 1618968661
Category : Antiques & Collectibles
Languages : en
Pages : 81

Book Description
In its diversity of culture and landscape, stands the dense archipelago of plains, savannas and wooded steppes of the northern part of Cameroon. This part of Cameroon dominated by its flat landscapes, its ferralitic soil, somewhat ferruginous and very exactly clay; is subject to extremely high temperatures, since it is an integral part of the Sahel zone. The question of suitable housing for a Sudano-Sahelian climate is therefore not a new concept in this part of Cameroon. Traditional and ancestral construction techniques using the clay material sometimes associated with crushed straw, or even with cement used as a binder, still exist today. It is therefore not uncommon to find in slightly more remote localities (here assimilated to villages, districts and districts), constructions made entirely of rubble (we are referring here to the city of Mokolo and its surroundings, in the department from Mayo-Tsanaga to Far North Cameroon), and also from terracotta bricks (much more on the side of Yagoua and its surroundings, in the department of Mayo-Danay in Far North Cameroon). Still in Far North Cameroon on the Logone et Chari side, the construction of the shell houses of the Mousgoum people dominate the architectural landscape. Going up in North Cameroon on the side of Garoua in the locality of Pitoa, Djalingo, Boulgou, Tinguelin and Badebroun including all the other surrounding localities, soil morphology, architectural landscape and all other geotechnical parameters of soil characterization remain the same; the use of the material “earth” in particular the cooked and compressed brick predominates the habitats. In most cases, the soils are 90% sandy and clayey in nature; this is what the relevant results obtained from years of research tell us.

Cameroon

Cameroon PDF Author: International Monetary Fund. African Dept.
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1484337557
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 88

Book Description
This paper discusses Cameroon’s First Review Under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Arrangement, Requests for Waiver of Nonobservance of a Performance Criterion (PC) and Modification of PCs. Cameroon’s performance under the three-year ECF-supported program approved in June has been satisfactory, with the fiscal and external adjustments contributing to the rebuilding of buffers. Growth in 2017–18 is expected to be somewhat weaker than anticipated in the program, declining to 3.7 percent in 2017 owing to lower oil production and tepid demand, with a recovery to 4.2 percent in 2018. The medium-term outlook remains positive, boosted by the coming on stream of large energy and transport infrastructure projects.

Analysing the Role of Energy Security in Promoting Third World Development

Analysing the Role of Energy Security in Promoting Third World Development PDF Author: John Alobwede Ngome
Publisher: Miraclaire Publishing
ISBN:
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 355

Book Description
Every scholar who reads this book will concur that at the heart of John’s analysis is rooted a fundamental question and preoccupation that although Cameroon is naturally endowed with abundant and diverse energy resources, the country however remains an energy-poor state due to the absence of a durable Energy Security Plan, political vision and political will, all of which continue to hamper the development of a range of renewables alongside various fossil fuels to improve and guarantee durable Energy Security to catalyze development and reverse the current energy crisis.
