The measurable properties of asphalts that contribute to the durability of pavements were tested. A Weissenberg rheogoniometer was chosen and modified to measure the rheological properties. An extensive laboratory testing program was made to determine the rheological and other physical and chemical properties of samples of asphalts used during the construction of a series of road sections. A field inspection of the 22 road sections provided information on pavement performance for use in the correlation with the laboratory data on the asphalts.
