The Adventures of Charlie Red Star

The Adventures of Charlie Red Star PDF Author: Edward Morris Barker
Publisher: FriesenPress
ISBN: 1460261968
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 42

Book Description
Charlie was what we Earthlings call a You-Eff-Oh, you know, a U.F.O., an Unidentified flying Object. He had been seen by two very surprised Earthlings on Thursday, April 10 1975 at about 9:10 p.m. local Earth time. Charlie was curious and he thought that this could be fun, so he decided to hang around to see what would happen next! Little did the Earthlings realize that they would soon be drawn into what was to go down in history as “The Adventures of Charlie Red Star”. Edward had received a phone call in his Planetarium office about bright red lights that cavorted around the night sky over Carman almost every night. He visited Carman, interviewed many people and viewed photographs of some of these red lights. (See inside!) Edward wrote an article in the Manitoba Museum Paper about what he found. Later, he wrote an article for “Manitoba Nature” entitled; “Manitoba U.F.O’s”. When he came to the part about the Carman U.F.O., he thought it would be fun to write the story from the viewpoint of the U.F.O.! The newspaper had called the lights: “Red Star Charlie”. It did not sound right to Edward and so he changed the name to “Charlie Red Star”. Later, he wrote the story for children and anthropomorphized those strange red lights. He also made Charlie into a short Planetarium show so that Charlie could fly once more in the starry, starry skies above Carman!

The string of unprecedented sightings launched the biggest UFO craze in Canadian history. With sightings for well over a year, one object seen again and again became known as Charlie Red Star. Grant Cameron was there. He witnessed Charlie Red Star many times, and led tours for others to see for themselves. He also caught wind of rumours of nuclear testing south of the Canada-U.S. border, which might have been the cause of the unexplained phenomena that was sighted in the upper atmosphere. This is the story revealed by eyewitnesses, photographers, and reporters chasing down the truth behind these still-unexplained encounters with UFOs.

The Dial Recordings of Charlie Parker

The Dial Recordings of Charlie Parker PDF Author: Edward Komara
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing USA
ISBN: 0313370958
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 232

Book Description
Dial Records catered to jazz musicians and record collectors. Charlie Parker was one of the major jazz artists to record with Dial. His Dial sessions occurred at the personal depths and artistic peaks of his career during which he introduced a number of such jazz staples as Ornithology and Scrapple from the Apple. His ten sessions associated with Dial are presented in detail and include the repertory, original issues and reissues, titles and notated transcriptions, and analyses of performances. Commentary explains many of the titles to Parker's pieces and collates the various recordings in which he performed his Dial repertory outside the confines of the Dial studios; these celebrated performances helped to shape modern jazz. In addition to the catalogue of Parker's Dial recordings, jazz historians and scholars alike will appreciate the historical narrative detailing the evolution of Dial Records, its owner Ross Russell, and its business relations with Charlie Parker. This examination of the 1940's jazz record business sheds light on the dissemination of jazz via records. Five appendices complete this well organized and thorough study of Charlie Parker and his legendary Dial recordings.

Mountain Lion Charlie

Mountain Lion Charlie PDF Author: Barend Van Kimball
Publisher: Sunstone Press
ISBN: 161139399X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
Mountain Lion Charlie was a real person. Those few who were fortunate to know him and those who heard hand-me-down tales romanced his deeds unnecessarily. Charlie’s truths are more than sufficient. A mountain of a man, his life began in the late eighteen hundreds and extended through almost three quarters of the twentieth century. His is far different from the typical mountain man tales. There is little typicalness in Charlie’s story. Born in the wilderness, raised in the wilderness like no other, he became truly one with its wild inhabitants, his beloved mountains and above all their spirit. His personal unique existence abounded in adventure. A walking legend in elusive solitude that from the continent-long Rockies to the majestic High Sierra, inhospitable deserts and badlands to inaccessible mountain tops he mysteriously came and went, rarely retracing his steps. Stride for stride, mile by mile no man’s moccasin prints ever trekked more land or blazed new trails. This is his story, from birth to his disappearance.
