Book Description
Scientists and engineers are working constantly to develop and improve the materials, machines and vehicles that are part of all our daily lives, and keeping abreast of advances in these fields is important to all those engaged in such efforts. This book presents the proceedings of NMMVE 2023, the 2nd International Conference on New Materials, Machinery, and Vehicle Engineering, held in Guiyang, China, from 2 - 4 June 2023. The conference brings together researchers, academics, and industrial professionals from around the world to discuss the latest advancements in the fields of new materials, machinery, and vehicle engineering. A total of 149 submissions were received for presentation at the conference, of which 57 were ultimately accepted after a rigorous three-part single blind review process. A wide variety of topics is covered in the papers, which are divided into 3 categories: machinery, new materials, and vehicle engineering. The book provides a valuable overview of the latest developments and breakthroughs, and will be of interest to all researchers and professionals working in the fields of new materials, machinery, and vehicle engineering.

Novel Research about Biomechanics and Biomaterials Used in Hip, Knee and Related Joints

Novel Research about Biomechanics and Biomaterials Used in Hip, Knee and Related Joints PDF Author: J. Philippe Kretzer
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3036512810
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 358

Book Description
Joint replacement is a very successful medical treatment. However, the survivorship of hip, knee, shoulder, and other implants is limited. The degradation of materials and the immune response against degradation products or an altered tissue loading condition as well as infections remain key factors of their failure. Current research in biomechanics and biomaterials is trying to overcome these existing limitations. This includes new implant designs and materials, bearings concepts and tribology, kinematical concepts, surgical techniques, and anti-inflammatory and infection prevention strategies. A careful evaluation of new materials and concepts is required in order to fully assess the strengths and weaknesses and to improve the quality and outcomes of joint replacements. Therefore, extensive research and clinical trials are essential. The main aspects that are addressed in this Special Issue are related to new material, design and manufacturing considerations of implants, implant wear and its potential clinical consequence, implant fixation, infection-related material aspects, and taper-related research topics. This Special Issue gives an overview of the ongoing research in those fields. The contributions were solicited from researchers working in the fields of biomechanics, biomaterials, and bio- and tissue-engineering.

Wear of Orthopaedic Implants and Artificial Joints

Wear of Orthopaedic Implants and Artificial Joints PDF Author: Saverio Affatato
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0857096125
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 449

Book Description
Although hip, knee and other orthopaedic implants are well-established prostheses, much remains to be understood about how these implants wear in use. This important book summarises the wealth of recent research in this area and its implications for implant and joint design. After an introductory overview, the book reviews the causes and prevention of implant wear. Part one discusses fundamental issues such as tissue response to wear, the anatomy and biomechanics of hips and knees as well as the materials and design issues they raise for hip, knee and other types of orthopaedic implant. Part two considers wear phenomena in a range of materials, including ultra-high molecular weight (UHMWPE), metal and ceramic joints. It also covers surgical and other factors influencing wear as well as ways of detecting, analysing and predicting implant wear and failure. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Wear of orthopaedic implants and artificial joints is a standard reference for implant manufacturers, surgeons and those researching this important area. - Summarises the wealth of recent research into the wear of orthopaedic implants and artificial joints and discusses the implications for implant and joint design - Reviews the causes and prevention of implant wear, tissue response to wear, the anatomy and biomechanics of hips and knees and the materials and design issues they raise for orthopaedic implants - Considers wear phenomena in a range of materials, including ultra-high molecular weight (UHMWPE), metal and ceramic joints
