Book Description
The authors propose a channel-matched hierarchical table-lookup vector quantizer (CM-HTVQ) which provides some robustness against the channel noise. They use a finite-state channel to model slow fading channels and propose an adaptive coding scheme to transmit a source over wireless channels. The performance of CM-HTVQ is in general slightly inferior to that of channel-optimized vector quantizer (COVQ) (the performances coincide in some cases); however, the encoder complexity of CM-HTVQ is much less than the encoder complexity of COVQ.

Joint Source-channel Coding of Discrete-time Signals with Continuous Amplitudes

Joint Source-channel Coding of Discrete-time Signals with Continuous Amplitudes PDF Author: Norbert Goertz
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1860948456
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 207

Book Description
This book provides the first comprehensive and easy-to-read discussion of joint source-channel encoding and decoding for source signals with continuous amplitudes. It is a state-of-the-art presentation of this exciting, thriving field of research, making pioneering contributions to the new concept of source-adaptive modulation. The book starts with the basic theory and the motivation for a joint realization of source and channel coding. Specialized chapters deal with practically relevant scenarios such as iterative source-channel decoding and its optimization for a given encoder, and also improved encoder designs by channel-adaptive quantization or source-adaptive modulation.Although Information Theory is not the main topic of the book ? in fact, the concept of joint source-channel coding is contradictory to the classical system design motivated by a questionable practical interpretation of the separation theorem ? this theory still provides the ultimate performance limits for any practical system, whether it uses joint source-channel coding or not. Therefore, the theoretical limits are presented in a self-contained appendix, which is a useful reference also for those not directly interested in the main topic of this book.

The H.264 Advanced Video Compression Standard

The H.264 Advanced Video Compression Standard PDF Author: Iain E. Richardson
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119965306
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 357

Book Description
H.264 Advanced Video Coding or MPEG-4 Part 10 is fundamental to a growing range of markets such as high definition broadcasting, internet video sharing, mobile video and digital surveillance. This book reflects the growing importance and implementation of H.264 video technology. Offering a detailed overview of the system, it explains the syntax, tools and features of H.264 and equips readers with practical advice on how to get the most out of the standard. Packed with clear examples and illustrations to explain H.264 technology in an accessible and practical way. Covers basic video coding concepts, video formats and visual quality. Explains how to measure and optimise the performance of H.264 and how to balance bitrate, computation and video quality. Analyses recent work on scalable and multi-view versions of H.264, case studies of H.264 codecs and new technological developments such as the popular High Profile extensions. An invaluable companion for developers, broadcasters, system integrators, academics and students who want to master this burgeoning state-of-the-art technology. "[This book] unravels the mysteries behind the latest H.264 standard and delves deeper into each of the operations in the codec. The reader can implement (simulate, design, evaluate, optimize) the codec with all profiles and levels. The book ends with extensions and directions (such as SVC and MVC) for further research." Wireless Video Communications

Wireless Video Communications PDF Author: Lajos Hanzo
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 078036032X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1138

Book Description
Bridging the gap between the video compression and communication communities, this unique volume provides an all-encompassing treatment of wireless video communications, compression, channel coding, and wireless transmission as a joint subject. WIRELESS VIDEO COMMUNICATIONS begins with relatively simple compression and information theoretical principles, continues through state-of-the-art and future concepts, and concludes with implementation-ready system solutions. This book's deductive presentation and broad scope make it essential for anyone interested in wireless communications. It systematically converts the lessons of Shannon's information theory into design principles applicable to practical wireless systems. It provides in a comprehensive manner "implementation-ready" overall system design and performance studies, giving cognizance to the contradictory design requirements of video quality, bit rate, delay, complexity error resilience, and other related system design aspects. Topics covered include information theoretical foundations block-based and convolutional channel coding very-low-bit-rate video codecs and multimode videophone transceivers high-resolution video coding using both proprietary and standard schemes CDMA/OFDM systems, third-generation and beyond adaptive video systems. WIRELESS VIDEO COMMUNICATIONS is a valuable reference for postgraduate researchers, system engineers, industrialists, managers and visual communications practitioners.

Multi-Frame Motion-Compensated Prediction for Video Transmission

Multi-Frame Motion-Compensated Prediction for Video Transmission PDF Author: Thomas Wiegand
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461514878
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 166

Book Description
Multi-Frame Motion-Compensated Prediction for Video Transmission presents a comprehensive description of a new technique in video coding and transmission. The work presented in the book has had a very strong impact on video coding standards and will be of interest to practicing engineers and researchers as well as academics. The multi-frame technique and the Lagrangian coder control have been adopted by the ITU-T as an integral part of the well known H.263 standard and are were adopted in the ongoing H.26L project of the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group. This work will interest researchers and students in the field of video coding and transmission. Moreover, engineers in the field will also be interested since an integral part of the well known H.263 standard is based on the presented material.
