Book Description
The paper shows the results of analysis and assessment of the changes in the agricultural landscape in Slovakia in the years 1990-2000, obtained through identification of the transfers from the CORINE land cover class 211 (arable land) in favor of classes 231 (pastures) and 242 (complex cultivation patterns). The area of class 242 increased by 13,111.7 ha, mainly in the hinterland of rural settlements of northern and central Slovakia and in the viticultural regions of south-western Slovakia. The cause of this change lies in restitution of farmland and its lease to new private farmers. The area of class 231 increased at the cost of the class 211 by 4,530.9 ha. This change was observed in almost all districts of mountain and sub-mountain regions of Slovakia and primarily it is due to the transformation in the agrarian policy of the State after 1989.

European Landscape Dynamics

European Landscape Dynamics PDF Author: Jan Feranec
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 131535554X
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 384

Book Description
Four unique pan-European CORINE Land Cover datasets—CLC1990, CLC2000, CLC2006, and CLC2012— and three datasets concerning changes between 1990 and 2012 have presented the first-ever opportunity to observe the European landscape by means of land cover and its change. This book brings together all these datasets to demonstrate the methods of identification, analysis and assessment of the European land cover and its changes that took place during the intervals of 1990–2000, 2000–2006, and 2006–2012. It provides examples in which CLC data plays a role in offering solutions to European environmental problems such as the monitoring of urban dynamics, land fragmentation, ecosystems mapping and assessment, and high nature value farmland characteristics. Existing environmental problems require new approaches, and European Landscape Dynamics: CORINE Land Cover Data indicates a set of outlooks for CLC data generation that produce more detailed levels of analysis and bottom-up approaches while addressing the relationship of CLC data to the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE). It also discusses the future of CLC data generation. A valuable resource of up-to-date information, it is useful to professionals such as scientists, territorial planners, and environmentalists as well as students of geosciences and all those who are interested in cognition of the European landscape, its changes and development.

Analyzing Sustainability in Peripheral, Ultra-Peripheral, and Low-Density Regions

Analyzing Sustainability in Peripheral, Ultra-Peripheral, and Low-Density Regions PDF Author: Castanho, Rui Alexandre
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1668445506
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 334

Book Description
In the last few years, advances in studies and research associated with the borderlands and the subsequent cross-border cooperation (CBC) have been increased and introduced all over the globe. Such advances essentially affect the cross-border strategies and policies, processes of border cooperation, and several complex border movements. Moreover, similar scenarios are encountered in ultra-peripheral and remote territories and low-density regions. There are common denominators, such as the limited land, water resources, and overexploitation of tourism, among many other factors, that make these specific territories critical case studies concerning their governance and sustainable development and growth. Analyzing Sustainability in Peripheral, Ultra-Peripheral, and Low-Density Regions investigates activities, processes, and behaviors in light of the new challenges and the desired sustainable development and growth model. It analyzes the dynamics and patterns ongoing in the peripheral, ultra-peripheral, and low-density regions regarding sustainability and the issues that may influence it. Covering topics such as glamping tourism, vegetation quality, and territorial cohesion, this premier reference source is an essential resource for government officials, business executives and managers, community leaders, environmentalists, researchers, and academicians.
