Human Factors Engineering Aspects of Instrumentation and Control System Design

Human Factors Engineering Aspects of Instrumentation and Control System Design PDF Author: IAEA
Publisher: International Atomic Energy Agency
ISBN: 920121720X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 157

Book Description
Safety, reliability, and productivity in the nuclear industry result from a systematic consideration of human performance. A plant or other facility consists of both the engineered system and the human users of that system. It is therefore crucial that engineering activities consider the humans who will be interacting with those systems. Engineering design, specifically instrumentation and control (I&C) design, can influence human performance by driving how plant personnel carry out work and respond to events within a nuclear power plant. As a result, human–system interfaces (HSIs) for plant operators as well as the maintenance and testing of the I&C system cannot be designed by isolated disciplines. The focus of this publication is to integrate knowledge from the disciplines of human factors engineering (HFE) and I&C to emphasize an interdisciplinary approach for the design of better HSIs and consequently improved human performance in nuclear power plants. This is accomplished by practical explanations of the HFE processes and corresponding outputs that inform the I&C development. More specifically, the publication addresses issues in the design process where collaboration between HFE, I&C and other important disciplines and stakeholders is paramount and identifies key tools and tasks for exchanging inputs and outputs between different design disciplines, particularly I&C and HFE. The practical information provided in this publication is intended to support Member States’ capabilities to improve their approach to I&C through the consideration of HFE.

Book Description
Site reliability engineering (SRE) is more relevant than ever. Knowing how to keep systems reliable has become a critical skill. With this practical book, newcomers and old hats alike will explore a broad range of conversations happening in SRE. You'll get actionable advice on several topics, including how to adopt SRE, why SLOs matter, when you need to upgrade your incident response, and how monitoring and observability differ. Editors Jaime Woo and Emil Stolarsky, co-founders of Incident Labs, have collected 97 concise and useful tips from across the industry, including trusted best practices and new approaches to knotty problems. You'll grow and refine your SRE skills through sound advice and thought-provokingquestions that drive the direction of the field. Some of the 97 things you should know: "Test Your Disaster Plan"--Tanya Reilly "Integrating Empathy into SRE Tools"--Daniella Niyonkuru "The Best Advice I Can Give to Teams"--Nicole Forsgren "Where to SRE"--Fatema Boxwala "Facing That First Page"--Andrew Louis "I Have an Error Budget, Now What?"--Alex Hidalgo "Get Your Work Recognized: Write a Brag Document"--Julia Evans and Karla Burnett

Country Nuclear Power Profiles

Country Nuclear Power Profiles PDF Author: International Atomic Energy Agency
Publisher: IAEA
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 532

Book Description
The preparation of Country Nuclear Power Profiles (CNPP) was initiated within the framework of the IAEA's programme on assessment and feedback of nuclear power plant performance. It responded to a need for a database and a technical publication containing a description of the energy and economic situation, the energy and the electricity sector, and the primary organizations involved in nuclear power in IAEA Member States. The CNPP covers background information on the status and development of nuclear power programmes in countries having nuclear plants in operation and/or plants under construction. It reviews the organizational and industrial aspects of nuclear power programmes in participating countries, and provides information about the relevant legislative, regulatory and international frameworks in each country. The CNPP compiles the current issues in the new environment within which the electricity and nuclear sector operates, i.e. energy policy, and privatization and deregulation in these sectors, the role of government, nuclear energy and climate change, and safety and waste management, which differ from country to country. Technical Challenges in the Application and Licensing of Digital Instrumentation and Control Systems in Nuclear Power Plants

Technical Challenges in the Application and Licensing of Digital Instrumentation and Control Systems in Nuclear Power Plants PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789201118196
Category : Digital control systems
Languages : en
Pages : 65

Book Description
"With the modernization of existing analogue instrumentation and control (I & C) systems in nuclear power plants through digital I & C technology, and the implementation of digital I & C systems in new plants, the industry is faced with significant challenges. These challenges appear in the form of difficulties in managing the necessarily incremental transition, highly integrated (and interdependent) architectures, the flexible configurability enabled by digital technology, and uncertainty and inconsistency in licensing digital I & C systems and equipment in the different Member States. This publication discusses 17 major issues that utilities, developers, suppliers and regulatory stakeholders need to consider, so that the industry can capture and benefit from shared experience, recent technological developments, and emerging best practices."--Publisher's description.
