Malformations of the Nervous System

Malformations of the Nervous System PDF Author: Harvey B. Sarnat
Publisher: Newnes
ISBN: 0080559840
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 689

Book Description
This volume deals with brain development malformations of the central nervous system, showcasing a unique approach that furthers research through systematic integration of exciting new developments from fields including molecular genetics, neuroimaging, and neuropathology. By integrating data and research from these disciplines, better conceptualization of the mechanisms of the developmental processes is achieved. Clinicians will find invaluable insights into complex issues, including midline hypoplasias, disorders of segmentation of the neural tube, and hamartomatous disorders of cellular lineage, amongst others. The clinical manifestations of central nervous system malformations are also discussed, along with new advancements in MRI techniques and analysis, including volumetric morphology, spectroscopy, and functional neuroimaging. Sections dedicated to management and treatment are also included in an effort to aid clinicians in their goal of providing better care for individuals affected by these types of malformations. * A single source that encompasses the various aspects of cerebral malformations * A unique approach that furthers research through systematic integration of exciting new developments from fields including molecular genetics, neuroimaging, and neuropathology* New diagnostic tools, management protocols, and treatments for patient care

Fundamentals of Craniofacial Malformations

Fundamentals of Craniofacial Malformations PDF Author: Ulrich Meyer
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 303046024X
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 393

Book Description
This is the first volume in an interdisciplinary three-book series covering the full range of biological, clinical, and surgical aspects in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with craniofacial malformations. This volume opens by considering general topics such as developmental biology and disease classification and then examines in depth the biological basis of the various malformations, including craniosynostoses, cleft-lip and palate with complex orofacial clefts, branchio-oculo-facial syndromes, rare syndromes, soft tissue malformations, and dysgnathia. Psychological aspects, including psychological evaluation methods and therapies and quality of life issues, are then addressed. Finally, all relevant clinical, radiological, and genetic investigations are described and important diagnostic issues are explored. Featuring numerous high-quality illustrations, the book will be of high value for all clinicians, researchers, and postgraduate students who deal with these malformations. The accompanying two volumes describe treatment principles and present in an atlas manner all relevant surgical techniques in detail. The content of this multivolume set, written by the world’s leading research and clinical specialists in their discipline, represents therefore the recent intellect, experience, and state of this medical field.

Clinical Neuroembryology

Clinical Neuroembryology PDF Author: Hans J. ten Donkelaar
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540346597
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 544

Book Description
Progress in developmental neurobiology and advances in (neuro) genetics have been spectacular. The high resolution of modern imaging techniques applicable to developmental disorders of the human brain and spinal cord have created a novel insight into the developmental history of the central nervous system (CNS). This book provides a comprehensive overview of the development of the human CNS in the context of its many developmental disorders. It provides a unique combination of data from human embryology, animal research and developmental neuropathology, and there are more than 400 figures in over a hundred separate illustrations.

Handbook of Fetal Medicine

Handbook of Fetal Medicine PDF Author: Sailesh Kumar

Book Description
Handbook of Fetal Medicine provides a concise and practical guide to the modern management of normal pregnancy and the at-risk fetus. Comprehensive in scope, in an easy-to-use format, the book provides guidance on a wide range of conditions, best practice management strategies and treatment options in maternal-fetal medicine. Each system-based chapter has a brief introduction on embryology and discusses the key genetic developments and relevant developmental abnormalities. The book begins by addressing genetic disorders such as Down syndrome, and goes on to consider skeletal and bodily system abnormalities. All key management points are highlighted and data on long-term outcomes are provided. This book will appeal to maternal-fetal medicine specialists, subspecialty trainees, obstetricians and midwives as a useful practical reference tool in daily practice. It is particularly suitable for trainees in Obstetrics & Gynaecology preparing for the post graduate examinations.

Clinical Neuroembryology

Clinical Neuroembryology PDF Author: Hans J. ten Donkelaar

Pages : 926

Book Description
This book provides a comprehensive overview of the development of the human central nervous system (CNS) in the context of its many developmental disorders due to genetic, environmental and hypoxic/ischaemic causes. The book contains three general, introductory chapters in which an overview of the development of the human brain and spinal cord, a summary of mechanisms of development as obtained in experimental studies in various invertebrates and vertebrates, and an overview of the causes of congenital malformations are presented. The developmental disorders of the human brain and spinal cord are presented in a regional, more or less segmental way, starting with neurulation and neural tube defects, and ending with developmental disorders of the cerebral cortex. These chapters are abundantly illustrated in colour with carefully chosen clinical case studies with imaging data, and when available, postmortem verification of the developmental disorders involved. In the third edition, more emphasis has been given to the developmental ontology based on the prosomeric approach, and fetal development. Prenatal diagnosis by ultrasound, MRI and DTI, and classifications of developmental disorders have been updated. A number of new Clinical Cases have been included. Several new co-authors participate in various chapters. The book is intended for advanced medical students, and all those clinicians working with children and adults with developmental disorders of the CNS. Unique to the book is the integration of data from human embryology, experimental and molecular findings in mice in particular, imaging and developmental neuropathology.
