Cell Synchrony PDF Author: Ivan L. Cameron
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483268977
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 409

Book Description
Cell Synchrony: Studies in Biosynthetic Regulation focuses on the processes, principles, applications, methodologies, and approaches involved in biosynthetic regulation, including chromosome replication, cellular biosynthesis, and enzyme synthesis. The selection first takes a look at the theory of synchronous cultures, synchronous replication of the chromosome in Bacillus subtilis, and chromosome replication in Escherichia coli. Discussions focus on attempts to characterize the physical state of replicating DNA, cell division and the regulation of chromosome replication, regulation of sequential chromosome synthesis, synchrony of chromosome replication, and determination of the cell doubling-time distribution function from the decay of synchronization. The text then examines nuclear events in synchronously dividing yeast cultures, periodic enzyme synthesis in synchronous cultures of yeast, and light-induced synchronous sporulation of a myxomycete. Topics include periodicity of enzyme synthesis, use of synchronous cultures for studying cellular biosynthesis, and cytological observations on synchronously dividing cultures. The book explores the effects of temperature on the mitotic cycle of normal and synchronized mammalian cells; behavior of sulfhydryl groups in synchronous division; and morphogenetic and macromolecular aspects of synchronized Tetrahymena. The selection is highly recommended for researchers interested in biosynthetic regulation.

Cell-Cycle Synchronization

Cell-Cycle Synchronization PDF Author: Zhixiang Wang
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 1071627368
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
This volume covers a broad range of cell types including cultured cell lines, primary cells, and various unicellular organisms such as fission yeast, budding yeast, parasite Leishmania amazonensis, and parasite Trypanosoma brucei. The chapters in this book are organized into four parts. Part One looks at a general overview of cell cycle control and synchronization. Part Two discusses techniques to synchronize mammalian cells to various cell cycle phases including mitotic sub-phases. Part Three covers synchronization of unicellular organisms and Part Four analyzes cell cycle progression. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Cutting-edge and thorough, Cell-Cycle Synchronization: Methods and Protocols is a valuable resource for both novice and expert scientists in this developing field.

Reproduction of Eukaryotic Cells

Reproduction of Eukaryotic Cells PDF Author: David M. Prescott
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323160522
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 188

Book Description
Reproduction of Eukaryotic Cells organizes in a single source the principal facts and observations on the cell life cycle and reproduction of eukaryotic cells. The aim is to increase the overall understanding of how these cells reproduce themselves and how this reproduction is regulated. The book begins with a discussion of the sections of the cell cycle and regulation of cell reproduction. Separate chapters on cell growth, cell synchrony, the G1 period, S period, and G2 period follow. Subsequent chapters are devoted to activities during cell division; cell cycle changes in surface morphology; the role of cyclic AMP (cAMP) and cyclic GMP (cGMP) in regulation of cell reproduction; and changes in nuclear proteins, RNA synthesis, and enzyme activities during the cell cycle. The final chapter covers the genetic analysis of the cell cycle.

Plant Tissue Culture: Theory and Practice

Plant Tissue Culture: Theory and Practice PDF Author: S.S. Bhojwani
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080539092
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 779

Book Description
Since the publication of the first edition in 1983, several new and exciting developments have taken place in the field of plant tissue culture, which forms a major component of what is now called plant biotechnology. The revised edition presents updated information on theoretical, practical and applied aspects of plant tissue culture. Each chapter has been thoroughly revised and, as before, is written in lucid language, includes relevant media protocols, and is profusely illustrated with self-explanatory diagrams and original photographs. This book includes three new chapters: "Variant selection", "Genetic Engineering" and "Production of Industrial Compounds" and contains a complete bibliography and a glossary of terms commonly used in tissue culture literature. This updated version proves to be an excellent text for undergraduate, postgraduate students and teachers in various fields of plant sciences and a useful reference book for those interested in the application of any aspect of this aseptic technology.

Normal and Malignant Cell Growth

Normal and Malignant Cell Growth PDF Author: R.J. Fry
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642482635
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 247

Book Description
This volume presents the Proceedings of the University of Chicago's third Cancer Training Grant supported Teaching Symposium. This Symposium received much of its support from grant number T12 CA 08077-02. Most of the planning of the Symposium and most of the local editing of the Proceedings was carried out by Dr. R. J. Michael Fry of the A.E.C. Argonne National Laboratory and by two members of the Advisory Committee of the Cancer Training Grant, Drs. Melvin Griem and Werner Kirsten. They carried the main responsibility for the Symposium. The subject of the Symposium, "Normal and Malignant Cell Growth," was chosen because, as the Proceedings reflect, it is a rapidly advancing field of endeavor which is of utmost importance to the understanding of the processes of malignant neoplasia. In fact, there is increasing evidence that knowledge of the kinetics of the cancer cell will greatly influence approaches to cancer therapy. Like the first two of these Teaching Symposia held in 1964 and 1966, this one attracted about 400 students and staff from this medical institution as well as from other medical centers in the Chicago area. The effective interplay of an excellent group of scientists with a lively and responsive audience was evident as they considered together a topic of great current interest in the field of neoplasia. Much of the credit for the smooth organization and implementation of the Symposium must go to Mrs.
