Book Description
"Author Christoph Grafe investigates an architectonic typology, the cultural edifice, which must often take on the role of national identity and culture in the realisation of a democratic society. This book takes two specific projects as its subject: London's South Bank and the Kulturhus in Stockholm. The buildings were chosen as a result of their architectural meaning, and by the fact that they appeared in two countries that fulfilled a leading role in the development of the post-war 'welfare state'; in Europe. Besides an in-depth analysis of the two cities within the context of their wider national and cultural development, the book includes a photo essay by German photographer Heidi Specker" --

Rhizobiology: Molecular Physiology of Plant Roots

Rhizobiology: Molecular Physiology of Plant Roots PDF Author: Soumya Mukherjee
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030849856
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 499

Book Description
This book discusses the recent advancements in the role of various biomolecules in regulating root growth and development. Rhizobiology is a dynamic sub discipline of plant science which collates investigations from various aspects like physiology, biochemistry, genetic analysis and plant–microbe interactions. The physiology and molecular mechanisms of root development have undergone significant advancements in the last couple of decades. Apart from the already known conventional phytohormones (IAA, GA, cytokinin, ethylene and ABA), certain novel biomolecules have been considered as potential growth regulators or hormones regulating plant growth and development. Root phenotyping and plasticity analysis with respect to the specific functional mutants of each biomolecule shall provide substantial information on the molecular pathways of root signaling. Special emphasis provides insights on the tolerance and modulatory mechanisms of root physiology in response to light burst, ROS generation, agravitrophic response, abiotic stress and biotic interactions. AO ASIF Principles in Spine Surgery

AO ASIF Principles in Spine Surgery PDF Author: Irene Zintel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540627630
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
This book has become necessary as a consequence of the rapid expansion of the surgical procedures and implants available for spinal surgery within the "AO Group". We have not attempted to write an in-depth book on spinal surgery, but one which will help the surgeon in the use of AO concepts and implants. We con sider the practical courses held all over the world essential for the teaching of sound techniques so that technical complications and poor results can be avoid ed for both the surgeon and, in particular the patient. This book is a practical manual and an outline of what is taught in the courses. It is intended to help the young spinal surgeon to understand the correct use of AO implants. The indi- tions given will aid the correct use of each procedure. . It must be strongly emphasized that surgery of the spine is technically de manding. The techniques described in this book should only be undertaken by surgeons who are trained and experienced in spinal surgery. Certain techniques, in particular pedicle screw fIxation and cages, have not yet been fully approved by the FDA in the United States. However, throughout the rest of the world, the use of pedicle screws has become a standard technique for the spine surgeon, since it has been shown to improve fIxation techniques and allow segmental correction of the spine. The use of cages has become more and more popular, specifIcally as a tool of minimally invasive spinal surgery.
