Book Description
This program is directed at furthering the development of a metal- membrane-based process for economically producing pure hydrogen from the raw gasifier stream. A related program is directed at developing a metal-membrane-based process for cleanly and efficiently removing hydrogen sulfide from the hot gas stream. Both of these processes would be accomplished at 500°C to 800°C and are based on a novel hydrogen-permeable composite-metal membrane. Specific program objectives include (1) design, fabrication, and demonstration of pre-prototype membrane modules; (2) improving the membrane composition to increase the hydrogen flux; (3) evaluating membrane lifetime; and (4) conducting engineering and economic analyses of the processes.

Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 7

Book Description
This program is directed toward the development of a metal-membrane-based process for the economical production of hydrogen at elevated temperature by the reaction of carbon monoxide with steam--i.e., the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. Key to achieving this objective is the development of an inexpensive and durable metal-membrane module. The specific program objectives include the following: design, fabrication, and demonstration of prototype membrane modules; improving the membrane composition to increase the hydrogen flux; demonstrating that membrane lifetime ≥2 years is likely to be achieved; and conducting engineering and economic analyses of the process. Results to date are given and discussed.

Catalytic Carbon Membranes for Hydrogen Production. Final Report

Catalytic Carbon Membranes for Hydrogen Production. Final Report PDF Author:

ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 71

Book Description
Commercial carbon composite microfiltration membranes may be modified for gas separation applications by providing a gas separation layer with pores in the 1- to 10-nm range. Several organic polymeric precursors and techniques for depositing a suitable layer were investigated in this project. The in situ polymerization technique was found to be the most promising, and pure component permeation tests with membrane samples prepared with this technique indicated Knudsen diffusion behavior. The gas separation factors obtained by mixed-gas permeation tests were found to depend strongly on gas temperature and pressure indicating significant viscous flow at high-pressure conditions. The modified membranes were used to carry out simultaneous water gas shift reaction and product hydrogen separation. These tests indicated increasing CO conversions with increasing hydrogen separation. A simple process model was developed to simulate a catalytic membrane reactor. A number of simulations were carried out to identify operating conditions leading to product hydrogen concentrations over 90 percent. (VC).
