Excerpt from The Toledo Museum of Art Catalogue of Paintings, February 1914: Permanent Collection of Paintings, Paintings by Contemporary Spanish Artists, Etchings of Spain by Gleeson, Pennell, Aid, and Nordfeldt Born in Jersey City, 1855. Painter of bistori cal subjects. Received medals at the Chicago World's Fair, the pan-american Exposition, and at the Paris Exposition of 1900. His spirited canvas, Battery H in Action, was a commission from the survivors of Battery H, First Ohio Light Artillery, which was recruited at the outbreak of the Civil War in Toledo and vicinity. The picture was unveiled with appropriate ceremonies at Memorial Hall, To ledo, Tuesday, March 13, 1894, by Wm. Mckinley, Jr., then Governor of Ohio. El 21 de marzo de 1980 se inauguraba en The Solomon R. Guggenheim de Nueva York la muestra colectiva New Images from Spain. Su comisaria, Margit Rowell, había visitado durante los dos años anteriores cerca de un centenar de estudios de jóvenes artistas a lo largo de la geografía española, entre los cuales escogió a una decena para organizar una exposición dedicada a nuestra escena artística.
