Recent Advances and Future Trends in Pavement Engineering

Recent Advances and Future Trends in Pavement Engineering PDF Author: Patricia Kara de Maeijer
Publisher: Mdpi AG
ISBN: 9783039363162
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 210

Book Description
This Special Issue "Recent Advances and Future Trends in Pavement Engineering" was proposed and organized to present recent developments in the field of innovative pavement materials and engineering. The 12 articles and state-of-the-art reviews highlighted in this editorial are related to different aspects of pavement engineering, from recycled asphalt pavements to alkali-activated materials, from hot mix asphalt concrete to porous asphalt concrete, from interface bonding to modal analysis, and from destructive testing to non-destructive pavement monitoring by using fiber optics sensors. This Special Issue partly provides an overview of current innovative pavement engineering ideas that have the potential to be implemented in industry in the future, covering some recent developments.

Decentralised Sanitation and Reuse

Decentralised Sanitation and Reuse PDF Author: Piet Lens
Publisher: IWA Publishing
ISBN: 1900222477
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 652

Book Description
Adopting a multi-disciplinary approach, Decentralised Sanitation and Reuse places public sanitation in a global context and provides a definitive discussion of current state-of-the-art sanitation technologies. It shows how these technologies can be implemented to integrate domestic waste and wastewater treatment in order to maximize resource recycling in domestic practice. Decentralised Sanitation and Reuse presents technical solutions for on-site collection and transport of concentrated waste streams, and focuses on the compromise between reliability and minimal water wastage. A whole range of available sustainable technologies, both low and high-tech, to treat concentrated (black water) and diluted (grey water) streams are addressed in detail from the fundamental scientific and engineering points of view. Sociological, economic and, particularly, environmental and public health aspects are essential issues within this book. The necessity of new infrastructure implementation and the resulting challenges for a good number of economic branches are illustrated with examples from architecture and town planning. Decentralised Sanitation and Reuse will be an invaluable resource for a wide academic and professional readership active in the fields of environmental protection and public sanitation. Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements (Superpave)

Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements (Superpave) PDF Author: Thomas William Kennedy
Publisher: National Research Council
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 184

Book Description
The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) was a highly focused, ambitious research effort that targeted four specific areas for intense study over the time frame from 1987 to 1993. Asphalt was one of the four study areas. This report describes the Superpave system, the final product of the asphalt research program; and the various parts that comprise its operational characteristics. In all, the final report of the SHRP Asphalt Research Program consists of five parts, the contents of which are briefly described in this report. Reference is made within this report to specific details within the other four parts for readers who want a more detailed description of the methodology, test methods, and theory behind Superpave.

Proceedings of the RILEM International Symposium on Bituminous Materials

Proceedings of the RILEM International Symposium on Bituminous Materials PDF Author: Hervé Di Benedetto
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030464555
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1806

Book Description
This volume highlights the latest advances, innovations, and applications in bituminous materials and structures and asphalt pavement technology, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the RILEM International Symposium on Bituminous Materials (ISBM), held in Lyon, France on December 14-16, 2020. The symposium represents a joint effort of three RILEM Technical Committees from Cluster F: 264-RAP “Asphalt Pavement Recycling”, 272-PIM “Phase and Interphase Behaviour of Bituminous Materials”, and 278-CHA “Crack-Healing of Asphalt Pavement Materials”. It covers a diverse range of topics concerning bituminous materials (bitumen, mastics, mixtures) and road, railway and airport pavement structures, including: recycling, phase and interphase behaviour, cracking and healing, modification and innovative materials, durability and environmental aspects, testing and modelling, multi-scale properties, surface characteristics, structure performance, modelling and design, non-destructive testing, back-analysis, and Life Cycle Assessment. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, present a wealth of exciting ideas that will open novel research directions and foster new multidisciplinary collaborations.

Stiffness of Asphalt-aggregate Mixes

Stiffness of Asphalt-aggregate Mixes PDF Author: Akhtarhusein A. Tayebali
Publisher: Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp)
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 118

Book Description
This report presents an evaluation of several test systems for stiffness determination of asphalt-aggregate mixes, including 1) axial resilient stiffness, 2) diametral resilient stiffness, 3) resilient and dynamic flexural stiffness, and 4) dynamic shear stiffness. All of the stiffness test systems were found to be sensitive to mix and test variables, especially to asphalt source, asphalt content, aggregate type, and air-void content. Models are presented to permit estimation of flexural stiffness (and loss-stiffness) from shear stiffness (and loss-stiffness in shear) at 20 deg C and 10 Hz frequency.
