With this gentle refrain, the debut picture book from celebrated author and playwright Natalie Meisner (Double Pregnant) reflects on her own two-mom, two-son family's early days growing up in Lockeport, Nova Scotia. Living by the sea offers myriad charms for the two young brothers in this poetic ode to beachcombing. When the fog disappears, the path to the beach beckons, with all the treasures it leaves behind: lobster traps, buoys, fused glass, urchins, a note in a bottle. But best of all is all the neighbours they meet along the way. An unforgettable instant classic for families of all shapes and sizes. Featuring glorious watercolours by Mathilde Cinq-Mars, which capture the warmth and magic of time spent with family by the sea.

What My Mother Gave Me

What My Mother Gave Me PDF Author: Elizabeth Benedict
Publisher: Algonquin Books
ISBN: 1616202688
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 233

Book Description
In What My Mother Gave Me, women look at the relationships between mothers and daughters through a new lens: a daughter’s story of a gift from her mother that has touched her to the bone and served as a model, a metaphor, or a touchstone in her own life. The contributors of these thirty-one original pieces include Pulitzer Prize winners, perennial bestselling novelists, and celebrated broadcast journalists. Whether a gift was meant to keep a daughter warm, put a roof over her head, instruct her in the ways of womanhood, encourage her talents, or just remind her of a mother’s love, each story gets to the heart of a relationship. Rita Dove remembers the box of nail polish that inspired her to paint her nails in the wild stripes and polka dots she wears to this day. Lisa See writes about the gift of writing from her mother, Carolyn See. Cecilia Muñoz remembers both the wok her mother gave her and a lifetime of home-cooked family meals. Judith Hillman Paterson revisits the year of sobriety her mother bequeathed to her when Paterson was nine, the year before her mother died of alcoholism. Abigail Pogrebin writes about her middle-aged bat mitzvah, for which her mother provided flowers after a lifetime of guilt for skipping her daughter’s religious education. Margo Jefferson writes about her mother’s gold dress from the posh department store where they could finally shop as black women. Collectively, the pieces have a force that feels as elemental as the tides: outpourings of lightness and darkness; joy and grief; mother love and daughter love; mother love and daughter rage. In these stirring words we find that every gift, ?no matter how modest, tells the story of a powerful bond. As Elizabeth Benedict points out in her introduction, “whether we are mothers, daughters, aunts, sisters, or cherished friends, we may not know for quite some time which presents will matter the most."

When My Mother and Father Forsake Me, the Lord will take care of me

When My Mother and Father Forsake Me, the Lord will take care of me PDF Author: Doc Mas
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1098040465
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 38

Book Description
My life started when my parents left me in an abandoned house to die, and I found out years later that I nearly starved to death, losing my adopting father to the Korean War at three years old, then a sickly childhood, a life of risk taking acting like I had a death wish (including Russian Roulette after Vietnam), a life of hating God which I denied there was one, survival guilt, and PTSD from Vietnam, meanness, a failed marriage, alcoholism, suicide attempts in various ways, prison, and my only child dying in Desert Storm. I was insane a lot of the time. The price I paid finally drove me to start reading the Bible and seeking God. I finally gave up! I had to learn how to Love. I painfully wrote this book to reach out to any lost souls who are suffering and think they have the answers to find purpose of life, true happiness, and true Love without Jesus. My prayer is that if you bring your cynical, skeptical unbelief to the first page of my story that the Lord will have mercy on you (He loves all His children equally) and you walk away with hope! If only 1 person finds the Lord then all my suffering has been worth it.

Mom Me : E-Mail 2 Heaven PDF Author: Valerie Auguste'-Partin

Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 81

Book Description
Dear Mom Me, Why did I write the book sequel to Mom Me: Soaring Through The Pain ? Th e answer is simple. I need people to understand the difference between the grief journey of losing your mother to more than one terminal illness vs. just losing your mother to natural causes. Some folks still believe that I should be over my loss by now. Fortunately, many of them still have their own mothers and can never empathize with me. Why should they? A mother is the extraordinary superwoman who inhaled the breath of life into you for (9) miraculous months. She exhaled you to the world during the slow and painful labor process. To watch my physically strong, healthy and powerful mother who gave me life, lose her own life slowly and painfully to not one, but two terminal illnesses, left a dark stain and a traumatic impression on me emotionally. It is difficult to transition smoothly to the happy moments shared together when the recent memories of their physical anguish and suffering still haunt and torment you. For many of us, these emotional demons are worst at night when you are alone with your nocturnal thoughts. This book is dedicated to her undying memory and incredible legacy. Contributions will be sent to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) in memory of Esther M. Auguste.
