ISBN: 1250133793
Category : Young Adult Fiction
Languages : en

Book Description
For fans of Girl Online and Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, the fresh, funny, and utterly irresistible young adult novel My Life Uploaded by Rae Earl explores the ups and downs of life online. Hello! Millie Porter here. I’m posting this from a garden shed, because three so-called adults are in the house arguing over whether you can train penguins. You see, I moved in with my dad, granddad, and aunty to escape my mum’s neat freak boyfriend. (He follows me around with a vacuum cleaner, like that’s a normal thing to do. It’s not.) The point is, this reality thing is HARD, so my BFF Lauren and I are taking it online to tell you how to handle it. We are going to make a difference with this vlog. That is, if I can just get Dave the cat’s tail OUT OF MY FACE. Yes, we know it’s usually only übergeeks like Bradley Sanderson who do vlogs. Yes, we know that Instagram queen Erin Breeler will not like it ONE TINY BIT. But Lauren says she’ll be too obsessed with the hot new boy at school to notice us. You get to see me juggling real life, online life, and a cat intent on my destruction as it happens—IRL. This is my life. Uploaded. And don't miss the sequel, My Life Gone Viral! An Imprint Book "Quite excellent." —Kirkus Reviews

Shed No Tears

Shed No Tears PDF Author: Caz Frear
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0062979876
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 403

Book Description
Acclaimed and internationally bestselling crime novelist Caz Frear returns with her third superb novel featuring Cat Kinsella, a cop “on par with Susie Steiner’s and Tana French’s female detectives” (Kirkus Reviews). Four victims. Killer caught. Case closed . . . or is it? Growing up in a London family with ties to organized crime, Detective Constable Cat Kinsella knows the criminal world better than most cops do. As a member of the city’s Metropolitan Police, she’s made efforts to distinguish herself from her relatives. But leading an upstanding life isn’t always easy, and Cat has come close to crossing the line, a fact she keeps well hidden from her superiors. Working their latest case, Cat and her partner Luigi Parnell discover a connection to a notorious criminal: serial killer Christopher Masters, who abducted and killed several women in 2012. Though the cops eventually apprehended him, his final victim, Holly Kemp, was never found and he never confessed to her murder, despite the solid eyewitness testimony against him. Now, six years later, the discovery of Holly’s remains near Cambridge seems to be the definitive proof needed to close the case. Still, a few key items of evidence don’t quite line up. As Cat and Parnell look closer, they find discrepancies that raise troubling questions. But someone will do anything to keep past secrets hidden—and as they inch closer to the truth, they may be putting themselves in jeopardy . . .

Of Acorns and of Lobsters

Of Acorns and of Lobsters PDF Author: B. G. Emtage
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1479713287
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 165

Book Description
~If you could wish for whatever you wanted, and keep it for half an hour, what would you wish for? Twin princes Barth and Aden are given this fairy-gift when they are named, and use it for unseemly purposes. The fairy responsible for giving them this gift is already under house-arrest for earlier lobster-related crimes... While the King and Queen wish they could train their boys how not to end up slaves to "whatever their hearts desire", it may take something more... Or perhaps a someone with a pigeon in his pocket.~ The reputable gnome, Sir Neltum Furnabay, is thought to have first recorded this volume and to be the one responsible for leaving it under a wheelbarrow in my vegetable garden, (and there were very clear little tracks between the carrots). I asked my cat if she thought it was Neltum, and if she had given him a hard time in delivering the manuscript (she likes to chase things) but she wouldnt say. But I suppose that gnomes are far too clever to get eaten by a house cat what with surviving Lagon-Cockles, and criminal fairies, and uncouth garden parties already. I also suppose that he would have left the manuscript with the intent that more people would get to read it than just me. I suppose it to be an honest history of Fenathon, and the royal family there, and really written by this particular gnome, because no gnome that Ive ever met has been in the habit of just making up stories or assuming false pen names. Only humans do that sort of thing. I hope you are having a good day, Dear Reader, and that you will consider this brilliant work well worth your time.

How to be a Bad Muslim and Other Essays

How to be a Bad Muslim and Other Essays PDF Author: Mohamed Hassan
Publisher: Penguin Random House New Zealand Limited
ISBN: 0143776223
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 189

Book Description
This is the breakout non-fiction book from award-winning New Zealand writer Mohamed Hassan. From Cairo to Takapuna, Athens to Istanbul, How To Be A Bad Muslim maps the personal and public experience of being Muslim through essays on identity, Islamophobia, surveillance, migration and language. Traversing storytelling, memoir, journalism and humour, Hassan speaks authentically and piercingly on mental health, grief and loss, while weaving memories of an Egyptian immigrant fighting childhood bullies, listening to life-saving ‘90s grunge and auditioning for vaguely-ethnic roles in a certain pirate movie franchise. At once funny and chilling, elegiac and eye-opening, this is a must-read book from a powerfully talented writer. “Mohamed Hassan takes the things we universally love - food, music, family, dreams of travel, a heart’s desire – and affirms their gorgeous ordinariness. Then he reveals how othering shatters what we share; how it splinters “us” to create confusion, ignorance, hurt and even hate. Sometimes his writing is gently observational, sometimes sad, sometimes justly angry, but always important, timely and true.” – John Campbell “The book is amazing. Mohamed Hassan is so talented. In How To Be A Bad Muslim, he pulls off that rare trick of taking a poet's grace and applying it to his essays, making them as beautiful to read as they are illuminating.” – Dominic Hoey “Mohamed’s is a fresh voice but most of all, an important voice. We already have his poetry, which has been rightly recognised, but now New Zealand literature is all the richer for his elegant and powerful non-fiction.” – Rachael King "Mohamed Hassan writes from a space that nobody else stands in; a space borne of deep understanding and lived experience. He is Muslim, a child of Egypt and the Middle East and a child of New Zealand; a global traveler and reporter with his finger very firmly on the socio-politics of the globe and our place in it. He has a depth of vision, a level of craft and a talent not seen elsewhere. His is a voice that is vital. We need this book, now more than ever." – Tusiata Avia “These essays navigate migration and grief, Islamaphobia and love, family and society. Kaleidoscopic in tone, they sear at both the personal and the political level, and open up the immigrant experience. There is no other book like this published in Aotearoa. It refreshes our views of the world and of each other.” – Paula Green Twitter: @mohamedwashere Instagram: @el.sayyed Website: www.mohamedhassan.co.nz
