Liberation, Method and Dialogue

Liberation, Method and Dialogue PDF Author: Roberto S. Goizueta
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1532643888
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 199

Book Description
This book analyzes the theological method of liberation theologian Enrique Dussel and, by comparing it with the meta-method of Bernard Lonergan, establishes a paradigm for international theological dialogue. The author suggests that Dussel’s non-reductionist understanding of liberation and Lonergan’s understanding of the subject-as-subject provide a methodological foundation for critical dialogue between Latin American and North American theologians. The methodological maturation of liberation theology rehearsed in this study suggests how the insights of Latin American theology demand the development of an indigenous form of North American theology of liberation.

Latin American Liberation Theology

Latin American Liberation Theology PDF Author: David Tombs
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004496467
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 352

Book Description
David Tombs offers an accessible introduction to the theological challenges raised by Latin American Liberation and a new contribution to how these challenges might be understood as a chronological sequence. Liberation theology emerged in the 1960s in Latin America and thrived until it reached a crisis in the 1990s. This work traces the distinct developments in thought through the decades, thus presenting a contextual theology. The book is divided into five main sections: the historical role of the church from Columbus’s arrival in 1492 until the Cuban revolution of 1959; the reform and renewal decade of the 1960s; the transitional decade of the 1970s; the revision and redirection of liberation theology in the 1980s; and a crisis of relevance in the 1990s. This book offers insights into liberation theology’s profound contributions for any socially engaged theology of the future and is crucial to understanding liberation theology and its legacies. Limits of Liberation

Limits of Liberation PDF Author: Elina Vuola
Publisher: A&C Black
ISBN: 9781841273099
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 280

Book Description
How far are the real lives of millions of poor women really catered for in liberation and feminist theologies? Vuola argues here that traditional liberation theology's notion of praxis (as in L .Boff and E. Dussel) is limited by its essentialist notion of 'poor' and its neglect of the issue of poor women's reproductive rights. Classical feminist theologies, on the other hand, are fraught with their own essentialist notions ('women's experience'). Both discourses are inadequate to deal with poor women's suffering: widespread maternal mortality, high rates of botched, illegal abortions, and an overall lack of reproductive rights. As a response to this lack, Vuola nurtures a form of Latin American feminist liberation theology that addresses directly the suffering and death of these millions of women.

Beyond Philosophy

Beyond Philosophy PDF Author: Enrique Dussel
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield Publishers
ISBN: 0742571580
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 247

Book Description
Enrique Ambrosini Dussel is and has been one of the most prolific Latin American philosophers of the last 100 years. He has written over fifty books, and over three hundred articles ranging over the history of the Latin American philosophy, political philosophy, church history, theology, ethics, and occasional pieces on the state of Latin American countries. Dussel is first and foremost a moral philosopher, a philosopher of liberation. But for him, philosophy must be liberated so that it may contribute to social liberation. In one sense, 'beyond philosophy' means to go beyond contemporary, academicized, professionalized, and 'civilized' philosophy by turning to all that demystifies the autonomy of philosophy and turns our attention to its sources. 'Beyond philosophy,' also means to go beyond philosophy in the Marxian sense of abolishing philosophy by realizing it. This is the definitive English language collection of Dussel's enormous body of work. It will allow the reader to get a good sense of the breath and depth of Dussel's opus, covering four major areas: ethics, economics, history, and liberation theology.

Mision en el camino

Mision en el camino PDF Author: Charles E. Van Engen
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1532658435
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 381

Book Description
Book Description
Enrique Dussel's philosophy has gained worldwide prominence. This is the first full-length book on Dussel's philosophy ever to appear in English.
