Book Description
Excerpt from The California Eclectic Medical Journal, 1916, Vol. 37: Incorporating the Los Angeles Journal of Eclectic Medicine and the California Medical Journal The reason is against the rule and no such rule should ever be adopted by any sane people. The logical conclusion drawn from the observations among medical experts on gynecology is that it is possible and prob able for human pregnancy to be prolonged beyond the usually admitted normal period; but the question how far beyond is rather difficult to answer; though the greater amount of deviation, the stronger and more convincing should be the proofs. As Taylor remarks, We must be prepared to admit either that conception may, in some cases be delayed for so long a period as five to seven weeks after intercourse, or that there may be a difference of from five to seven weeks in dura tion of pregnancy. Wincle states that A pregnancy may vary from 240 to 320 days and even exceed the latter limit. Nearly seven per cent of the cases are over 300 days. Book Description
Excerpt from The California Eclectic Medical Journal, 1913, Vol. 6: Incorporating the Los Angeles Journal of Eclectic Medicine and the California Medical Journal In times gone by, when I was a boy in Kentucky, I knew slaves, 'live slaves, the slaves of live people. I would rather, today, be a slave back in Kentucky, in the way the blacks were then in bondage to the whites, and hae a live 'master, who could think and move and reason, than to be the slave of a pile of dead material.' The slave of a mighty building of brick and mor tar, or the slave of bonds and stocks and other inanimate substances that come from the printing press, and of which, the more some people possess, is the most despicable, pitiable and helpless form of slavery. I think, if you look about this city of Los Angeles, you will find many men thus slaves to dead matter, wearing their bodies out, subject to bondage to great buildings or banks or other forms of inanimate material. Millionaires they may think themselves, and yet they are slaves to franchises, and slaves to dead gold. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The California Eclectic Medical Journal, 1910, Vol. 3: Incorporating the Los Angeles Journal of Eclectic Medicine and the California Medical Journal The prevailing practice in cases where the kidneys are ln volved is to prescribe diuretics to increase the flow of urine. The patient is likewise instructed to drink as much water as possible to flush the kidneys and thus compel them to work even when they are already overworked or worn out. The fad of drinking large quantities of water to force the kidneys is a mistake. It was started in ignorance and is foolishly followed by many well meaning, but misguided people. Instead of pre scribing diuretics, give the kidneys a rest and use means to get the skin to acting. Work the skin but spare the kidneys. If men would pay more attention to the condition of the skin and quit worrying about the kidneys it would be an act of wisdom. A good rule for the average citizen to adopt is to exercise more and eat less. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
