The Aerodynamic Forces on Low-aspect-ratio Wings Oscillating in an Incompressible Flow
The Calculation of Aerodynamic Forces on the Circular Wing in Unsteady Incompressible Flow
Unsteady Aerodynamic Forces on an Oscillating Wing at High Incidences and Flow Separation
Author: H. W. Foersching
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 18
Book Description
Based on wind tunnel measurements on a low-aspect-ratio trapezoidal half-wing model in incompressible flow, some characteristic features of motion-induced unsteady airloads at high incidences and flow separation are presented and discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of the motion of the wing on the flow separation processes and on the investigation of the interactions between the separated flow phenomena on the stationary wing and the motion-induced unsteady airloads on the oscillating wing. It is shown that these air-loads are strongly affected by the flow separations and that their prediction from inviscid potential-flow theory may lead to rather unrealistic results in buffeting response calculations.

Some Measurements of Aerodynamic Forces and Moments at Subsonic Speeds on a Rectangular Wing of Aspect Ratio 2 Oscillating about the Midchord
Author: Edward Widmayer
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamic load
Languages : en
Pages : 52
Book Description
Comparison of the measured aerodynamic forces and moments with those predicted by the method of Reissner and by the method of Lawrence and Gerber for wings of aspect ratio 2 in incompressible flow showed generally good agreement. Comparison of the measured quantities with those predicted by two-dimensional-flow theory indicated that the effects of finiteness of span on the aerodynamic forces and moments are considerable. Some experimental results pertaining to the influence of wind-tunnel-wall effects on nonsteady aerodynamic measurement have been included in an appendix.

Calculation of Unsteady Transonic Aerodynamics for Oscillating Wings with Thickness
Author: S. Y. Ruo
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Transonic
Languages : en
Pages : 60
Book Description
An analytical approach is presented to account for some of the nonlinear characteristics of the transonic flow equation for finite thickness wings undergoing harmonic oscillation at sonic flight speed in an inviscid, shock-free fluid. The thickness effect is accounted for in the analysis through use of the steady local Mach number distribution over the wing at its mean position by employing the local linearization concept and a coordinate transformation. Computed results are compared with that of the linearized theory and experiments. Based on the local linearization concept, an alternate formulation avoiding the limitations of the coordinate transformation method is presented.
