Effect of Pretreatment Conditions on Catalytic Performances of Mesoporous Ni5/SBA-15 Catalyst in Methane Dry Reforming

Effect of Pretreatment Conditions on Catalytic Performances of Mesoporous Ni5/SBA-15 Catalyst in Methane Dry Reforming PDF Author: Charbel Harika

Book Description
Researchers have been studying dry reforming of methane (DRM) to produce syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, from methane and carbon dioxide. In this study, catalysts containing 5% wt Ni dispersed on SBA-15 support were prepared by "two solvent impregnation" method. Without prior calcination, three samples were pretreated by reduction under different atmospheres (H2/Ar, N2, Ar) at 450°C with a heating rate of 0.5°C/min. Two other samples were reduced under H2/Ar but at different temperatures and heating rates (650°C with 10°C/min, and 450°C with 0.5°C/min). After the catalysts characterization (N2 sorption, XRD and TPR) and the catalytic tests (activity and stability), Ni5/SBA-15(U-H2) (reduced under H2/Ar at 450°C with a heating rate 0.5°C/min) showed the best catalytic performance among the other catalysts studied. The behavior of Ni5/SBA-15(U-H2) is close to the behavior of Ni5/SBA-15 calcined at 450°C with a heating rate 0.5°C/min.

Plasma Catalysis

Plasma Catalysis PDF Author: Annemie Bogaerts
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3038977500
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
Plasma catalysis is gaining increasing interest for various gas conversion applications, such as CO2 conversion into value-added chemicals and fuels, N2 fixation for the synthesis of NH3 or NOx, methane conversion into higher hydrocarbons or oxygenates. It is also widely used for air pollution control (e.g., VOC remediation). Plasma catalysis allows thermodynamically difficult reactions to proceed at ambient pressure and temperature, due to activation of the gas molecules by energetic electrons created in the plasma. However, plasma is very reactive but not selective, and thus a catalyst is needed to improve the selectivity. In spite of the growing interest in plasma catalysis, the underlying mechanisms of the (possible) synergy between plasma and catalyst are not yet fully understood. Indeed, plasma catalysis is quite complicated, as the plasma will affect the catalyst and vice versa. Moreover, due to the reactive plasma environment, the most suitable catalysts will probably be different from thermal catalysts. More research is needed to better understand the plasma–catalyst interactions, in order to further improve the applications.

Cu/SBA-15 Model Catalysts for Methanol Steam Reforming

Cu/SBA-15 Model Catalysts for Methanol Steam Reforming PDF Author: Gregor Koch
Publisher: Logos Verlag Berlin
ISBN: 9783832541316
Category : Metal catalysts
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
In this book, the Cu/SBA-15 model catalyst for methanol steam reforming is described in detail. This study is an exemplarily road map for investigating model catalysts. The mesoporous structure of SBA-15 support, the structure of supported copper nanoparticles and their activity with regard to H2 production are presented. Based on that, structure activity correlations are deduced. Moreover, relationships between the structure of precursors and the structure of active catalysts are deduced. Therefore several analytical are presented: N2 Physisorption, DR-UV/Vis, in situ XANES, TPR, in situ XRD, specific copper surface area (N2O), size and strain analysis of copper nanoparticles, H2 production by methanol steam reforming. The reliable analysis procedure of each experimental method is described and can be principally employed on similarly constructed catalysts.
