Every applicant for initiation must be a free white male of the age of twenty-one years; of sound health; of good, moral character and ih dustrious habits, having some known respectable means of support; believe in the existence of a Supreme Being, the Creator and Preserver of the Universe, and he preposed in the Lodge nearest his residence, except that Lodge grant permission for his joining another Lodge; provided, that applica tion for membership may be made to any Lodge nearest the residence of the applicant, in the same county or district. A candidate may he admitted to any Lodge in the city or village in which he re sides; but all candidates for initiation must reside in this jurisdiction, except'such candidates as inay apply from other States or Territories where there is no Grand Lodge or District Deputy Grand Sire located.
