Book Description
Brenda Phillips is a Baby Boomer born in Toronto in 1954 when cars had wings and milk was delivered to your door in glass bottles. She lived a somewhat sheltered life in Swansea Village until her peer group changed on entering High School. At a time when America was sending young men to Viet Nam to fight a war they would ultimately lose, protesters were being shot on their own university campuses by their fellow countrymen and Hippies and Flower Children were dropping out of society to live in peaceful communities, her relentless search for the Truth took her on a quest that eventually led her to the Children of God, a radical, Christian organization she believed would not only help her to find the answers she sought, but provide an opportunity to lay down her life in service to God and humanity.

The Theory of Diffusion in Strained Systems

The Theory of Diffusion in Strained Systems PDF Author: Louis A. Girifalco
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Crystals
Languages : en
Pages : 1082

Book Description
A general theory of solid-state diffusion in strained systems is developed on a molecular-kinetic basis. The theory predicts that for simple strains the diffusion coefficient is an exponential function of the lattice parameter and that the rate of change of the diffusion coefficient with strain is linearly related to the interatomic forces. It has also been shown that for plastic flow the diffusion coefficient is a linear function of strain rate. All the conclusions are confirmed by the data available in the literature.

Galveston Burning

Galveston Burning PDF Author: James F. Anderson
Publisher: Arcadia Publishing
ISBN: 1439673802
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 224

Book Description
Since 1821, when Jean Lafitte sailed away from a burning Campeche, the history of Galveston has often been wreathed in smoke. Over the next century, one inferno breached the walls of Moro Castle, while another reduced forty-two blocks of the residential district to ash. Recognizing the importance of protecting the city, concerted efforts were made to establish the first paid fire department, create a city waterworks and regulate construction standards. Yet even with all the forethought and planning, rogue fires continued to consume architectural gems like Nicholas Clayton's Electric Pavilion. Author James F. Anderson explores the lessons that Galveston has learned from its fiery past in order to safeguard its future.

Fighting the Devil

Fighting the Devil PDF Author: Cliff Compton
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 0595452949
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 262

Book Description
There's a battle going on. It's true that the devil wears a suit and tie, but don't be fooled, if you watch him long enough, his pants will catch on fire. There's a battle going on. There's an angel sitting on one shoulder and a demon sitting on the other, and the one speaks soft and sensibly, the other plays an electric guitar and screams into your ear. And we all look good on Sunday morning, but sometimes our suits get rumbled and wrinkled in the course of the week, and temptation isn't just an apple on the tree anymore. It's a constant companion, and the road to heaven has more potholes than any preacher will admit to, but that does not change anything. Right is still right, and there's a battle going on. Fighting the Devil is one man's trek through the jungle.
